I was listening to the Ian & Sylvia recording of "Four Strong Winds" this afternoon, which led me to pull out an old favorite, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris "Grievous Angel." It's always a treat to sit down with that album for a half-hour. It got me to thinking about Tom Petty's love for this work & how it influenced "Insider," which we were just talking about in another thread. So I want to map out the chords for "Insider" in the hopes that you will at least try it, & your soul will be at peace.

Thanks, David. It's interesting to see how simple the chords are; Tom has a knack for laying such beautiful melodies over pretty basic progressions.
One of his more complicated songs chord-wise, by the way, is "I Will Run to You," which is a rare instance of him changing keys within a song. I remember figuring it out once; it didn't sound so great just strummed on an acoustic guitar. :distress:

OMG. In one paragraph, you've mentioned a butt load of my favorites. I'd be totally lost wihtout "Grievous Angel." The line in "Brass Buttons" where Gram sings "And the sun comes up without her, it just doesn't know she's gone" gives me gooseflesh EVERY time. That whole album is a masterpiece in the truest sense of the word.

"Four Strong Winds" is a big favorite, too, and it was recently voted the the most essential Canadian song (http://www.cbc.ca/50tracks/essentialcanadianmusic.html). I hear a lot of Stevie and Lindsey in Ian & Sylvia. In fact, this is on my list of covers I wish the Mac would do someday.

And, how many Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks fans don't love Tom Petty? Due to circumstances, I wasn't able to see him earlier this week, but I did listen to some of his box set. Hopefully, I'll get to see him someday.

Well, thanks for posting that now after I combed the internet looking for it! J/K  When I decided to learn to play it on guitar, it was really difficult to find the chords. It did finally find them, and I'm proud to say that this is a song I can play. It sounds really great on my acoustic. Thanks for posting the chords, really.
