While pre dominately a fan of the Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac, I thought I would post here my first time I met Stevie. I was doing sound for a friends band at a place called Rockers in Phoenix a very long time ago and they had a look a like contest where the winners got to hang out with the star that night. After the first set I went to the bar to get a refill on my pitcher. The lighting guy who was positioned above the soundboard asked if I would get him one too. So I turned the corner with both pitchers in hand lokking back and up at him when I walked into a Stevie Nicks look a like coming around the corner. She bounced off me and skidded across the floor in front of the bar. She was this tiny blonde thing and she was a little pissed at being dropped like that. Well, my hands were full so I apologized and turned to the bar to get the pitchers filled. Afterwards I tried to apologize figuring that she got all dressed up to meet Stevie and I propably ruined her night. She wouldn't look at me and this big guy with her just gave me a look. So I shrugged it off and went back and didn't think much of it. All the guys later kept bugging me about it and thought it was sooo funny. I didn't think it was that funny and finally got a bit pissed about the teasing. Then they explained it wasn't a look a like and that Stevie was really pissed off at me and had given me looks all night whenever I was away from the soundboard. A few years later A friend and myself ran into her and as he was talking to her she looked at me with a funny look and asked where she knew me from. Of course I said we had never met. My buddy said he almost cracked up completely, knowing the whole story, as I did everything to avoid looking at her while she was talking to me.

I love Stevie stories! Yours is one of the best I've ever heard. You actually knocked Stevie down. I can't say that's how I'd want to meet her, but you're lucky you got to meet her twice. I'm still shooting for my first time. Any more details?

Awesome.

It was the first of 2 benefit shows for St Marys food bank, filled out by local bands. It was in 1986, though the only flyer I found was for the 2nd show on June 14th at a place called The Impulse. So it should of been May or June for that show. If its the right show, this was the night after Poison dropped their drawers and started a mini riot at the club. Following the 2nd show we were all invited over to the promoters for a party, which was filled with all gay guys except for us. I remember moving around in a large group back and forth to the keg, trying to be polite, but feeling very uncomfortable. The lighting guy got so drunk he ended up dancing with a bunch of guys. The 2 look alikes/Celebrities that Showed if I remember correctly were Stevie and Ron Keel from the band Keel. Rob Halford was there as well, but I think he was just hanging out. Those were strange days.

How small she was even in heels and definitely petite. Remember I thought she was the look a like, who was that girl who made a little career out of looking like Stevie. I cant remember her name, but I think she got in trouble over something later. I keep thinking it was Cheryl something. The second time I really avoided looking at her much.

I wonder who the "big guy" was with her.

So when she "skidded back and over to the bar" did she fall, or almost fall? I would hate to get bad looks from Stevie. Bad mojo.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I remember that bar Rockers! I used to go there around 1984-1986. I had no such luck of seeing Stevie there though! I heard there was a sighting of her and Mick at the Library Cafe, if you remember that bar, I think on a New Year's Eve. Seems odd that she would go to Rockers. What did she do there - just sit or did she get up in dance? Didn't people recognize her and converge on her?

It was an odd choice of celebrity, considering Rockers was pretty much running Heavy Metal bands at that time. One thing though was Rob Halford was a regular there as well as other locals, I never saw anyone harassed much at all. I am sure it was a promo for the St Marys food bank through something else that was the tie in for Stevie. Being a Heavy Metal crowd and a local girl to boot, chances are that no one really cared. This was one of a series of shows for their benefit. I found the flyer for the show(it was on the previous page from the other one I found) It says June 23rd. Even still have my pass. That night was Kraken, Executioner, and Hot Shot on the bill. The special guest was supposed to be Poison, but after the previous night incident they didn't appear. Somewhere there is a video tape of the show. I remember someone filming me while I was running sound. I saw the tape briefly in someones living room afterwards, but no clue who has it now. One other interesting note, Stevie was a waitress for a painter I once worked for. We did some work at her place once (though I never saw her). She got him a lot of good jobs. We did McCartneys place in Tucson, The Governors house and a lot of politicians houses, restaurants and so forth. She must of been a real down to earth person, cause Gary was a no bull kind of guy and really liked her as a person. I never could imagine her working with him. He was around 6'7 with a big frame. I dont think he liked Lindsey though, I think he fired him or something, cause he was lazy. If I catch up with Gary, I will ask him.

The Library was the place by the freeway, just north of Metro center right? Had the books on the walls everywhere? I think I only was there a couple of times.

Yes, yes! We want the scoop from Gary. Especially about how she was as an employee. I think she was fired as a dentist's assistant after just three days. Was it a restaurant in California or in Arizona?

You're just full of interesting tidbits!

The bar you're talking about is the Library. It burned down. For awhile though there was a bar called the Library Cafe somewhere around 16th St & Indian School - that area of town anyway.

Sure wish I would have been at Rockers that night though.

Wasn't her name Britney Marx or something like that?
