I am just back from Hershey. I went to the concert with my brother who cannot understand my music obsession. My brother has never been to a mac or Stevie Nicks concert... until now.
I am a child of the seventies so my brother has been listening to me play my mac and Stevie favorites over the years on my 8 track player, my record player, my cassette player and my cd player! Thirty years of music devotion!
Let me say it was fun bringing him along for the Hershey experience. When we arrived at the venue he couldn't get over the fandom...all those T-shirts from current and tours long past. His people watching really paid off with catching site of the chiffon and lace wrapped Stevie look alikes!!
We were early and found our seats along with a few other eager fans and he was amazed at the details already being swapped about this show. Didn't this tour only just begin?
I spotted a familiar looking face walking toward us. (We were third row on the side.) It was Taku casually walking down the aisle with an official looking stage hand. (He kept walking toward us and I kept my eye on him. He probably felt me watching him LOL.) I called out "Hi Taku!" Taku smiled and answered back as if he knew me "Hi how are you?" I told him we were looking foreward to the show. He's so friendly!!
My brother looked at me and asked "who was that?"
"That was Taku."
"Taku who?"
"Taku Hirano, master percussionist."
A look of surprise and disbelief came over my brother's face and he blurted out "YOU MEAN YOU KNOW THE BAND?"

Oh yeah and we added one more to the fandom that night.

I like how you've described him a la Mick Fleetwood SYW tour
You're better than I am...I don't even try to explain it. I don't really need to anymore (which is rather frigtening). I take off from work and my boss just looks at me. "Stevie or Fleetwood Mac?"

 I love it! I pointed out Chris Nicks to my Dad but he didn't even bat an eye, hehe.
Today I addressed an email to a guy named Steve as "Hi Stevie". Oops, that "i" is automatic.

Great post !!! i can soooo relate
To use a Grateful Dead reference, "either you are on the bus, or off the bus".
It's not meant to be an elitist statement. It means either you get it or you don't. If one requires explanation, they won't understand. How can I explain to the "unenchanted" why my throat closes, forcing my breathing to stop when Stevie simply stikes that pose on GDW. All she needs to do is one twirl and my physiology goes kablooey. The hopelessly enchanted are emotionally at her mercy. I cannot explain this. Her mojo rolls off some folks (sometimes I envy them)....some of us get completely consumed. Such is the magic of subjectivity. Sometimes I like to go to shows with friends that are hard core fanatics of bands that I only like. It's like visiting the temple of a god that I respect, but do not worship. I can observe their behaviors, rituals, inside jokes, iconography and other cultural what-nots. It helps me understand better how visitors view our furry little flock.
