Since everyone is getting all philosophical here with lyrics...I have one question that's been on my mind for years
What exactly is "all the same" in Rhiannon?

Well, she used to say all the same name. So, maybe that gives a clue.

When?
I always thought it was "All the same-ame."

hmm...I think this one is a stumper :blob2: we love stumpers
It's like I never really thought of that because I was more importantly listening to how good she is rockin out

Same here.
I think the "all the sames" are a continuation of the thought process of dreams unwind, love's a state of mind... all the same (as in, still, or even so)... he still cries out for her, "Don't leave me now."
Dreams unwind, love's a state of mind
Your dreams unwind, love's a state of mind
Your dreams unwind, and still, it's hard to find
I know
You dreams unwind, and still, it's a state of mind
I know
Dreams unwind, and still, it's hard to find
I know
Dreams unwind, and still, it's a state of mind
I know....
All the same, all the same (Even though, or still...)
All the same, Rhiannon
All the same, baby, all the same
All the same
And he still cries out for her...
"Don't leave me, now"
But that's just me. :wavey:

I agree with Cat...
It's just like some of her lyrics are very simple and not very deep and I think all the same means just, you know... over and over.. it's all the same
Sound too simplistic? Maybe that is her mystery, and charm..
Like..
Women, they will come and they will go- dreams
You feel good?, it's funny but I knew you would-angel
Baby,baby,baby.baby- 'til I see you again
What can I say this time, which card shall I play-straight back
And the planets of the universe go their way....-planets of the universe
All 5 of these examples are "All the same", at least I think so
I need to sleep and alow some dreams to unwind...
warmest wishes Ledgies

Plus, on the Buckingham /Nicks albulm...
On the song "Cryin in the Night" she also has a lyric about... "much has gone down since then" ...
In the body of the song, it fits, but I find it very 70's type lingo-
I find that in a lot of her interviews she still uses that hippy type lingo about events and reactions to things...Does anyone else notice that?

There is alot going on in Rhiannon...one of my favorite parts is "take me to the skyy ayyy ayyyyyy, take me now". Very cool part.
She uses hippie lingo all the time, as does Lindsey. They often use the same words like "heavy", "tripped out", "bliss" and others I can't think of right now. I hate the word heavy in NMB however, I usually crack a smile when I hear her say it because it is soooo Stevie.

i love that she uses 'heavy' - love it. i used to use it frequently (blame it on hippie parents) but have nearly eliminated the word after being called on it so many times. shame.
as for 'all the same' - it's one of those lyrics that i love yet never examine, i'm sure i wouldn't come up with something fabulous. i guess you can look at the lyrics that come before - dreams unwind, love's a state a mind - and say that the feeling of being let down by love is so constant that it's something that you're used to. yep, it's happened again but whatever, it's all the same. maybe?

I could swear she is saying "same name" in many recordings I have. I am pretty sure she says it on the Mirage live recording that was released - though I have not seen it in awhile - she says "all the same name - Rhiannon" at the end. Plus, I have seen her say the word "name" while standing under her feet at a concert. But, if people think it is "same - ame" that is their right and who am I to keep them down

I thought it was "All the same, babe." Who will ever know for sure? She's just rocking out at the end of the song, so whatever comes out, comes out...

I've never heard her sing "all the same name" but if she did, it would drive me nuts because it sounds so inane and stupid.

Well, it really is not. It would hit on the theory that Rhiannon, the goddess, is incarnate once in a million years - or at least that is how one of the legends goes. It makes sense from that angle. But, then again, Rhiannon, though written about the goddess, is really about LB  :] :]

I think "heavy" is a great word whether it still carries a hippy connotation or not. It's so much better than "AWESOME" which is so over-used by young people. EVERY F'ING thing can't be so spectacular that we could call it awesome. My god.
And I hear her saying "all the same name" very clearly in the older recordings and have no idea what the hell she's talking about but I'm sure it's pretty heavy.

What does "heavy" even mean? Like "cool"? I thought that in NMB when she says "sometimes it was too heavy" she means that things got too intense...

Me too! Game makes much more sense as well. It's all the same game...chasing Rhiannon, and never catching her because she is like a cat in the dark, or a skylark. He cries for her, but then she is gone. He cannot find her, and never stops searching. In the end, it's all the same game. Again and again.

I don't feel so stupid now! If only I could figure out the gibberish she screams at the end of the version in "Fleetwood Mac Live" (Tusk tour), I might be able to figure this out.

I've always though this next part was like a 'he said', 'she said' argument.
(he says) Oh, take me with you to the sky
(she says) Dreamer
(the Universe says) Try hard...try to leave her
(she says) Dream on, silly dreamer, try hard
(he says) Oh, take me to the sky
(she says) Dreamer
(she says again) Oh....Silly little dreamer
That's what I hear, anyway.

Good ears! I'm thinking that it might very well be "game." Exactly how you said, an endless chase.
All I know is that when I sing along at concerts, I say "game" and it sounds just right! :]

I would think "heavy" refers to intense. But I guess it could be either good or bad intensity.

In NMB...she says "sometimes it was heavenly" as in great, mindblowingly happy and "sometimes it was too heavy" as in too much, overwhelming, scary. In the song she is implying negative..at least IMHO.

you know something just clicked when I started reading through these...
In some of the Mirage Tour songs I have she changed it and said "you don't change and baby I don't change, it's all the same, Rhiannon"
I think I just answered my own question
