This poem sounds really cool set to music and with Stevie's vocals. Anyone know why she wanted to basically set this poem to music? Normally she would just take a few words from a story (like Running through the Garden) but this is pretty much the exact poem.
It would be so cool if this was on her next record. I am sure it would be a nightmare to get permision to do it though.

This demo is a DOWNGRADE.
I'd much rather have lyrics written by the Nickster.

I would think that the work of Poe isn't owned by anyone and can be used and reprinted without having to get permission. Anyone know?
It's alright as a curiosity, but it's so slow-moving that it gets old quickly. If she picked up the pace, I wouldn't be opposed to it as a bonus track.
If anyone is a fan of Poe and Stevie's Annabel Lee, I highly recommend getting the CD "Closed On Account of Rabies". It's a collection of actors and musicians reading and performing Poe's works to music. Iggy Pop does The Tell-Tale Heart, Marianne Faithfull does Annabel Lee, and Debbie Harry does The City and the Sea (and it's weeeeeeeerd). It also has Christopher Walken, Jeff Buckley, Gabriel Byrne, and Diamanda Galas.

I LOVE it! I've been wanting to hear it ever since I became a fan. I remember when someone first mentioned that there was a demo for it on the BN board and I was so excited! :blob2: Literary Stevie! :D I finally downloaded it and got to hear it a few days ago (got it from MistakenLove.com (www.mistakenlove.com/page2.html)) I SO want this to be tweaked and included on her next solo album! :blob2:

I listened to it once and shelved it. It sounds like I should give it another try.

That doesn't necessarily bother me, though. I remember you said once that "Bella Donna" dragged in some places, and I agree, but of course we both love it. :) But you never know. Some just rub people the wrong way. There's a ditty called "I Miss You," and y'all know my feelings so I'll shut up now. :D

Gate, did you manage to download "China Doll" yet? I think SaraRhiannon has it up now. I remember you saying you'd never heard this one before... it's probably my favorite demo...

I can sort of see her singing it to different groups of people sitting in different areas of the room where the piano is. When she says, "and I moved on" she quits looking at one and then looks at another. This is a very cool song.

I'd like to see it on an album, but I don't know how it would suit her new voice. Of course, I love both "The Tower" and "Goodbye Baby," so.......

Well, in Vegas, she did such a high and tight three part harmony during If Anyone Falls, I think she could do it.

Oh my. I've never seen or heard of another Galas fan in my life. You're quite a rare find, love. :xoxo:
If you get the CD, you'll realize that she was born to recite Poe with that voice of hers. Just amazing.

It is. I dusted it off and listened to it in my car today when I went to run errands and it's still as good as I remembered it. My favorites ones from it are Iggy Pop, Abel Ferrara, Debbie Harry, and Galas. But they're all spectacular, in my opinion. For sheer balls, the award has to go to Debbie Harry; her take on The City and the Sea hits you like a ton of bricks for the entire nine minute running time.

One of my favourites too. And just this afternoon I developed a new affection for Night Gallery. The demo I have is rough, but I think it could become a beautiful song (*adding another demo to be song to my long wishlist* :p ) .

That is one of my favorite demos possibly of all time by Stevie. Without meaning to sound too vague, I think Stevie's soul speaks in "Night Gallery," like a part of her heart, like the song "Amber."
It's the kind of song that gives me total chills & I sort of fall in love with Stevie all over again.

She really is the creepiest, crypty, creepella out there for sure. The Singer is a great album- I like most of it. Plague Mass and Masque of the Red Death are good, too, however, most of it is too tough for "regular" people to swallow. If one is looking for a catharsis, however, you need not look any further than Miz Galas.

Sounds like a cool CD, I'll have to check it out. Too bad we don't have a record store around here. Have all the music stores gone extinct lately? I remember when there used to be huge stores with tons of CDs with literally every album known to man. Now, if you want something that is not in the top 40 you have to order it online.

Has he been dead 70 years?
Does that mean that anywriter can use his work as long as they give him credit without any sort of permission?

He's been dead for 150 years :D Yes, if it's in the public domain, no one has a copyright on it.

I'm obsessed with this demo lately. My favorite part is at the end when she is like crying out "My life, my life, my bride". I am in love with this song/poem... and the way Stevie sings it.
