Since the other post is going in a much different direction than what I want to ask, I decided to make a new thread. One of Stevie's most beautiful lines, imo, is also one of the most elusive to me (I just hope finding the answer doesn't disillusion it for me). But, what does everyone think of the line "All I ever wanted was to know that you were dreaming!" I think it's a great line, but I can't tell what she's actually referring to.

I'm guessing she just wants the 'other person' to be thinking of her....dreaming of her...that she is on their mind.

It could mean alot of different things... my take on it is that she wants the other person to have thier own life, their own aspirarations.. and that alone would make her happier to know that...

well, live, she has ended that line with "Sara" - so it could be that  When I first heard it, I thought she was talking to herself and that she wished what happened had been a dream and not reality. I really have no clue though.

I agree  Also, maybe that the other person would never give up on their dreams.

my most favorite lyric evah... the one that i doodled in notebooks in high school, the one that i whispered as i traced the letters on my sleeping sister's back, the one that always brings a smile...
she's singing to the poet in her heart (not the poet in her hear ;) ), "all i ever wanted was to know that you were dreaming"...
keep those hopes and dreams and loves and memories alive inside your heart. the world - sometimes cold and cruel - goes on around you and sometimes it feels like you've hit a wall. it's in those moments that you want to be sure that you've still got 'it' inside of you.
