Of the Commercially available, I think it is without exception, Gold and Braid from the BD concert. I was watching it again (THANKS GLITTER) and she just gets up on it and rides it to the end. I mean she flat out dances the mashed potatoe (her version) at the end. The energy of that is awe inspiring to me.

I think a very close second is SOTM from the Mirage video.

Third - Rosebud Rhiannon, which is STUNNING!

Honorable mention to Blue Denim from Letterman and the Janis inspired scream at the end.

Silver Springs from The Dance is one of my fav.'s but that is not really a rocker.

Anyway, let's hear your fav.'s

SOTM Mirage (also, Chain Mirage really, really, really gets me, but that's with Linds, so. but still)
Yep, Rosebud...

Although it is not on video, Rhiannon live from the Rumours tour and the first Fleetwood Mac tour in 1975 rocked the hardest. Her nightly performanances probably helped ruin her vocal cords for years. You could not even count the number of twirls, there were so many!Of the Commercially available, I think it is without exception, Gold and Braid from the BD concert. It was her most animated moment since RAL - it took me by surprise after TOSOTM tour.

I LOVE GDW from The Dance, but it did not want to make me get up and dance like GOld and Braid. But, it was FAB. and that scream and the sort of collapse at the end - SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEBUS

For some reason Rhiannon dance really gets to me. The yelling 'dreams unwind' part, of course. It's very sensual, somehow. To me, anyway. GDW, too.

That's my favorite, too, along with Stand Back from Letterman in '98 (the one with the hideous eye makeup)....I don't recall her doing "Stand Back" on Letterman's show. Wasn't it Leno's?
I remember how short her bangs were... like someone tried to even them up, and kept cutting and cutting. Was a great "Stand Back" though.

Going by the criteria of what gets me up on my feet, I would have to pick "Gold And Braid" as my favorite "rockin'" performance.

Any version of Stand Back rocks with me. To me it most rocks at a Fleetwood Mac show because its so unexpected. The Nashville crowd went ape shiit last summer when they all realized what the song was. Stevie's spinning in place at the brigde made them all scream again. The vocal of Stevie's Stand Back from the Tango Concert video kicks major ass too, even though she just stands at the mike stand(thank you klonopin).

We can all thank cocaine for the kickass BD Golden Braid/I Need To Know!!!!

Kelly
04-27-2005, 06:36 AM
Every time Stevie tells that "blob" story when describing what the klonopin did to her, I think of that Tango dvd. My apologies to those who like it..she does look great..but her energy level and committment to the performance are at an all time low. She literally does not move away from the mic.....the only thing I like about the entire dvd is her mini skirt.

back to the topic...favorite rocking performance.
GDW from the Dance. I love the wild eyes and how she just let go.
SoTM and The Chain...mirage
Stand Back...storytellers...love the grinding with Carlos.

BTW...I thought she looked smoking hot throughout Enchanged...Leno included. She was simply gorgeous every time I saw her. My husband, who thinks she is ok but prefers younger Stevie..thinks she is hot as Hell on Storytellers. I do like the jewel thing she did on her head back then too.

okay, definitely Braid from the HBO concert.

but, just to add it though it doesn't necessarily 'rock' - Rhiannon from the Dance. it may be the most beautiful. when she's singing 'take me like the wind child, take me with the sky... take me now' she pulls her hand up to her face and is just more knockout gorgeous at that moment than any other moment in time.

I think I've watched that scene about a million times. What a great -- albeit coked out out her mind --moment. I've spent so much time trying to figure out exactly what she was shouting into the mic.

And who can deny the drama of Stevie walking gingerly to the edge of the stage following the spin, in tears...mouthing "and you say...no" to the front row. Everyone was acting like it was some kind of meaningful moment...I did too, being only 12 years old and not knowing yet what a drug crash was. :]

I think what David's trying to say is that many people make a blanket statement that all of Stevie's performances during that era must have been so good because she must have been so high at the time. It sometimes takes away from the fact that she's a talented songwriter & awesome live performer.

It's all in fun to me, though. And David, please correct me if I'm wrong. :wavey:

Exactly! Several of the trading sites don't trade anymore, and it's really time consuming to know which are the best to get when you find one that WILL trade. Perhaps some enterprising fan will set up the definitive site one day.
I've been wanting to do a radio special (for a public radio station - no money involved) on the Mac history, and looking for interviews, sound bites and live stuff (whether sound or video) that I could use is daunting.

If you want to trade for the US Festival and the HBO concert on dvd..PM me. I probably won't be able to get it done until after Vegas though...My brain is completely preoccupied with the fact that I will be there in 4 - 5 days. I am so excited! BTW...the Behind the Musics and the Tusk doc on dvd are excellent sources as well..although you might have those already.

Thanks for the offer - those are two shows I've heard a lot about and would love to see them! I have the Tusk documentary, but no Behind The Music. Please let me know how to go about this, and no problem waiting til after the show!

Hi David,
so do you think that Stevie's coke years yielded some of best performances, based on the example you cited? I mean, 1983 was probably the apex of her coke-mania right? Have you ever heard a HSML from the post RAL period onwards that ever came near this?

yes! That is what I mean.

Being high doesn't make you good. It just makes you high. I am in a band of nontalents, & when we get high to perform, we don't get better. We just get higher. You could give us all the coke in the world, & you still isn't gonna see a performance out of us like the performance Stevie gave of 'How Still My Love' in Los Angeles way back in October 1983. That's her best performance of all time, & it came from her.

I never talk about Stevie's alleged "coke" years because I just don't think it made all that big a difference. whenever I saw her -- like at the US Fest or at Irvine Meadows -- coke wasn't an issue. Revisionistic history is fashionable, however, so you hear lots of people talk about how allegedly "stoned" she was in the years before she went to Betty Ford.

True, people definatley have a tendency to 'remember' things much differently than perhaps they really were. For example, the legendary stage-falls of the RAL tour. Some say it happened once, some say it happened often, some say it happened never, etc. So it just goes to show you.
But anyway, to what then do you owe the all-out energy and conviction that Stevie gave to her performances pre-1987? When have you seen post-Klonopin Stevie come close to her old performing self? I'd say perhaps 'The Dance' tour? I think you have mentioned the 'Street Angel' tour, at least vocally. Any specific songs? I'm blanking out on that tour although I did catch her Jones Beach stop that summer, was she still doing the big satin Kirstie Alley robes with shoulder pads look?
