I find it really disapointing that Lori says there is no new record in the works. I wish she would have at least said Stevie is writing some songs for a new album. Now I am worried that Stevie just doesn't want to write a new record or doesn't feel the need. Which doesn't sound like Stevie but perhaps she has just said, you know, "my work here is done" and has decided to just tour for the rest of her life. Here is what Lori said:
Hi. How did u come to know Stevie Nicks & how long have u been singing with her now? Will u continue to be able to sing with her. Is their an album that Stevie is working on now?
Lori's answer:
Barbara.... I met Stevie when she was working on her first record “BuckinghamNicks” back in 1973. I’ve been singing with her since 1981. I have always sung on her records, and hopefully, I always will. There is no record in the works at the moment.

I would also love some new music, but Stevie has done quite a bit in this new millennium. She released a solo album, toured, then went into the studio with FM, released more music through SYW, then went on a massive, amazingly long tour.
So it's possible that she's giving herself a break, and maybe her idea of a break means not worrying about writing and recording new music, but doing some shows? Just a thought.

Maybe she's wanting to focus on finally working from the ground up with Fleetwood Mac as opposed to giving her label the two more albums that she owes them? I wouldn't mind that at all. I still think something with this whole tour she's about to embark on this summer doesn't add up. She's not promoting anything--last album was in 2001--she toured the same markets for the past two years with Fleetwood Mac. Oh, to be a fly on the wall at Reprise...

On another note, don't you think Barbara could have spelled out the word "you" when writing a formal question to someone she doesn't know?

Oh Marissa - Now THAT would be something. I think she and LB should move to a house together and start everything from scratch. I am seeing a Malibu estate with direct ocean views from all rooms

This is OT but the least people can do if they are going to email someone that they are not familiar with is utilize proper spelling. :distress:

I do believe your spidey sense to be correct. If she put out a greatest hits album, would that meet contractual obligations i'm wondering. Another greatest hits compilation...cause lord knows we don't have enough of them.

Since the 1980's, she has only released two new solo albums.. it's now 2005, and there is no new album in the works??? what is she waiting for?
it seemed she waisted so much time with her drug haze in the early 90's that I would think she would want to turn out some new material left and right nowadays to make up for lost time.... guess not :(

Word. She needs a new album ASAP. I know it is not a popular opinion but I think she is at the top of her game. I love her weathered voice and I think her new songs are great (TISL, Touched By An Angel, Destiny Rules, Fall From Grace- they are all fabulous)

A new album al la Trouble in Shangri La would be so great - especially since she didn't really get to enjoy the success and touring she deserved from it. Which I've always found really sad. It was such a comeback - of her music and of her. She was healthy and happy again, she was doing lots of interviews, and she was so clearly enjoying it again. I would love to see another album from her - I wonder if she's feeling at all uneasy at the prospect, simply because of what happened with TISL. There was so much love and time and effort put into it... and then it sort of got swept away and forgotten. I wonder if she's almost scared to put so much of herself into something again, without knowing what will happen. I could understand that. It must have been devastating to her (not that Sept. 11th wasn't to everyone - that's not what I'm saying. I hope you guys know what I mean here). I, for one, could understand if she was feeling a little weary. I still really hope she does record another album. If nothing else, I want to hear the songs that were written on this past tour...

I guess if you think about, Say You Will was basically another new Stevie solo album - 10 new tracks (when you include Not Make Believe)... so, i guess we can cut her a little slack... i wasn't really expecting her to put out a new album this year anyway, but definately sometime next year..

I guess looking back in retrospect, it sorta gets drowned out with 9/11.. but in reality, TISL came out in early May of '01.. she started touring in early July to promote the album... by the time 9/11 happened, she was more than 3/4 done with the tour (in fact well into the second leg)... I guess i can see how it overshadowed everything for her.. but she did get to enjoy it.. and so did the fans for basically the entire summer... but then the summer became the fall... :(

True, but that was two years ago. You'd think by now she would have at least written a couple of songs or a have a few new demos ready for a new album. It sounds like the idea of a new solo record isn't even in her head right now.
However, I am glad the SYW tour lasted so long because we all have great memories from it it seems. So, no new album is a small price to pay for the fabulous shows a lot of us saw the last few years.

I never understood this "9/11 got in the way" bullshit. The album dropped in April and by September, it had sunk like a stone on the charts. She got to enjoy the success of the album. Her tour was almost over, she had never planned on going overseas to begin with, etc. She got plenty of enjoyment out of it all and from the way she talks about it, she got plenty of enjoyment out of playing msuic for people after 9/11 in an attempt to make them feel better.

Well, she spent quite a bit of time in the 90's beating her second drug addiction. Then she spent a really long time working on TISL (and it shows, it's a remarkable album). Not to mention spending all of '97 on the reunion tour.
And she's released the equivalent of two albums in the 2000's and toured more than most people 1/2 her age.
I think she's produced quite a bit. And I don't think she needs to make up for lost time. I think everything she's given us since beating her drug addiction has been pure beauty and I'll take whatever she has to give us at her pace. She's earned it, in my opinion.

I completely agree. The tone of these Q and A answers has gone from discussing starting the new solo album to there is none in the works. Lori's answer speaks volumes. I am not sure why it is so difficult to accept that at some point in Stevie's life she may want to begin moving away from this constant working? If the lack of interest in this GH cd wasn't a clue that something is changing, this answer from Lori certainly is. *If* another studio album was planeed, you would think Lori would use the same answer she did a few months ago, "we are going to get to work soon".
BTW...I do not think 9/11 has anything to do with why she may or may not be planning another studio album but I do think it could be why she wanted to tour with someone else, aka, Don Juan. The responsibility of touring alone after what happened on the road with TISL could be overwhelming.
I mean can anyone really argue that Don appears to just being doing some sort of favor for Stevie? His comments in the Florida newspaper and the complete lack of organiztion to this summer thing speak for themselves too. (plus it is only what ten dates long? who tours with just ten dates)

Yup. We all know how absolutely taxing and strenuous it is to go into the studio to record a new album.

This is WAY off topic... but somehow I do get the sense that Stevie is turning a corner in her career. It seems that the transformation is now complete- she is now more of an icon/legend than a relevant/current artist. And it seems that there is probably very little she could do now to change that. Sure, she could crap out an album of new material every couple of years, like Elton John or Yes or James Taylor, but it is unlikely that she will ever again garner the kind of press and hype that she used to, even with TISL. Next thing you know she will be doing an album of standards, or worse yet, re-recording the material from her salad days (can you say Joni and Alanis??). Then you can stick a fork in her recording career.
That being said, I think Stevie should do a reality show for VH1. She is perfect for this- a single, post-menopausal female rock n roll legend with lots of addictions, lots of famous friends, lots of famous ex-lovers and an ardent fan base. Add to the mix the fact that she lives with her brother, her sister-in-law and her budding rock n roller niece. And she struggles constantly with her creative muse, her commercial success, her weight and her unrequited love for Lindsey. And it's not like she hasn't done this sort of thing before (SYW documentary DVD), and she seems charming and easy-going enough on camera.
Stevie, give me a call. My people will talk to your people.
