CURRENT ROUND: ROUND 2
http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showpost.php?p=297550&postcount=105

Well, sadly I can't change a thread title and I would like as many as are interested to be aware of this, so I'm starting a new thread.

THE CONTEST:

First you should know what the prizes are (pics will be uploaded in the next couple days)
In order from least cool to coolest:

(2) Warner Brothers Promotional photos of The Dance Era. One is the picture we're all familiar with that was in the Rollingstone article. The other I haven't
seen too ften, but they're both common.

(4) Collectible Backstage Passes. Authentic backstage passes: two from the Wild Heart tour, one from the Rock A Little Tour, and one from the Mirage tour.

(1) Tusk sticker; A new york radiostation handed these out to promote the Fleetwood Mac Concert at Madison Square Garden on November 15, 16 1979.

(1) Stevie Nicks HBO promo poster. I ended up with three of these, sold one on Enchanted and have now decided to give the other away to a deserving Ledgie.

(1) Fleetwood Mac 1997 promo display - This is The Dance Pop-up that also functioned as the press kit. Complete with the band facts and dates card.

(1) a 6 page "BAM" reprint & a 4 page "Rolling Stone" reprint. These items are from the Bella Donna press kit. Literally you'd just be missing the pictures to have a complete Bella Donna Press Kit. Both articles contain photos and a really cool cover. The Bam article is Stevie Nicks: The Fleetwood Mac Siren Finds Solo Stardom by Blair Jackson. The Rolling Stone Article is Stevie Nicks' Magic Act by Timothy White. Both have cool tidbits in them and have the Modern Records logo on the back and bottom of each page (they did this for the press kit only)

and Lastly, my favorite: (1) 1979 Peter Beard Tusk Lithograph. To find out more, see EnchantedSLN post on this page http://burnish.net/fleetwoodmac/index.php?showtopic=100&st=15. The images are from the Tusk picture sleeves (albeit with a few extras thrown in) and the bottom of the lithograph has some lyrics from Tusk (all the songs are represented at least once) strewn about on tiny slips of paper. Again I've had three of these in my day so I'm sure the Burnish page is inaccurate about value and how many were made, but it's still a cool collectible and can be hung pretty much anywhere since it isn't overtly Fleetwood Mac (in case you have roommates that would complain about such a thing :( )

Ideally I would give the prize pack to someone in Vegas, but seeing as how a bunch of ledgies can't go, I will also be willing to mail stuff. I have three ideas as to what the contest should be dependent on how many folks would be interested in playing. If you think you have even a slight interest shoot me an e-mail (thepoetinmyheart@aol.com, please put "contest" in the subject line) or respond in this thread now that it is seperate from the seating chart and I'll decide how it's going to be played tomorrow night. The contest will likely be trivia or photo releated and is open to everyone, brand new ledgies and up.

Michael.

Hey all!

I'm thinking about the overseas question. I've never mailed something overseas so if you shoot me a PM about how that works I'll make a decision. I'm open to it, but I don't want to have to go pay a fortune on customs stuff.

I'm leaning towards running all three contests as individual rounds with one round elimination. For the trivia round, a set of questions will be posted. All who decide to participate would have five days to find the answers and e-mail them (NOT POST) to me. This should allow everyone time to respond and get them right (sort of how the old Mac jeapardy used to run). The second round would then be posted along with the folks that survived elimination. This method would seem to make it a level playing field for those always on the ledge, those will dialup, those who are away, etc.

Yes, yes, more jokes about how much I've posted. I still don't know all about the Mac. I feel I can never really catch up with all the knowledge and material others have. The collect stuff people. which are most of the people here. Luckily, it doesn't bother me much. Okay, here’s round one: 10 questions, about (keyword about) 50 points possible.

THE RULES
There will be no elimination after any of the rounds, we’re going to do this based on points. Round two is NOT TRIVIA. Longterm fans and newbies alike will have a chance to score big in round 2. Round 2 will be announced in four days. Even if you only know one answer to these questions you still have a chance to win.

You have until Thursday at midnight (United States pacific standard time) to send your answers to me: Thepoetinmyheart@gmail.com. Please note this is a different e-mail than the previously listed e-mail. As soon as I hear from Pip, I'll let you know about overseas, but for now let's assume ALL ARE WELCOME TO PLAY, even if you didn't e-mail or post that you were going to play. There will be a second prize.

Only one e-mail per round is allowed and you Must include your ledgie username in the e-mail.

I know some of these are tough, but I’ve checked and all of this information is available on the web (except for number 3). If you have a question about a question, post it here, but please do not post your answers here. The first person to e-mail answers will get a bonus 10 points, the second person 9 points, the third person 8 points, etc. This is just so you don’t all wait until the last minute.

ROUND ONE
1. While doing press for Bella Donna, Stevie was consistently asked about a new Fleetwood Mac record. In the fourth quarter of 1981 Stevie told reporters she had recorded three songs for a new Mac record. Which three songs did she say she had recorded for the album? (1pt for each correct answer, make sure to get the titles as Stevie lists them and only 1981 sources).

2. In 1979 Stevie “donated” a song to UNICEF (sort of). What song was it?

3. How many times has the word angel appeared in Stevie lyrics (demos do not count, only officially released songs, both FM and solo, not backing vocals, and only count the times the word appears in the song, note the Nicksfix is actually off on this one) (1pt for each correct answer).

4. What position did Stevie have in the VH1 100 greatest women of rock? What position was Fleetwood Mac in the VH1 100 Greatest rock bands of all time? (1pt for each correct answer)

5. Which non-fleetwood mac, non-stevie solo videos has Stevie appeared in? (refers to music videos only, not concerts or storyteller specials).

6. Name two songs that Stevie turned down that became top 10 hits. (1pt. for each)

The Easy section:
7. What officially released Songs has Stevie recorded with Tom Petty? Name them. (1pt. for each)

8. What officially released songs has Stevie recorded with Don Henley? Name them (1pt. for each)

9. What songs were in Stevie’s set list the last time she played Vegas? (1pt. for each)

10. What name did Stevie use to check into Betty Ford in 1987?

This post will update with clarifications. If something is added here you may change your answer to that question and only that question.

Some clarifications already requested:
#3. Only Stevie-penned songs count and please list the instances. The word Angels DOES count.

#9 This references the last time Stevie played Las Vegas solo. yes, the set list must be in order

New Clarifications:
#3, yes those faint angels DO count.

#4 I meant the rock bands one they did, but people have answered assuming the 100 greatest artists of all-time, so I will count either.

#5 non-solo means songs which were not originally released by Stevie Nicks. SO for instance a video for Leather and Lace would not count, but a video for Whenever I call you Friend would count. (there is no video for Whenever I call You Friend for the record).

#7 and #8, the only response I feel comfortable giving here is that the word vocals (lead or otherwise) never appears in this question so I fail to see the misunderstanding or the need for clarification. It means what it says, What songs has Stevie recorded with...

I don't see any probs with sending stuff overseas. I send and receive stuff all the time. The cost is dependant on weight and if anyone were to get stung with customs futies it would be the person receiving it. I'm pretty sure you just mark it as a gift

I mark it as a gift, and it still goes through customs. Though now I'm wondering if I should start lowering the value on CDs I send overseas. The last two batches to Europe were $22 for shipping. That was via air mail, insured, and one was registered. Of course, it was about 36 CDs. So would marking the value lower make a difference?

By "list the instances" do you just mean the number of times for each song? ie, "Angel - 1 million times" like that?

By "list the instances" do you just mean the number of times for each song? ie, "Angel - 1 million times" like that?

Yes, I mean how many time stevie sings the word angel. Plurals weren't going to count, but since many people counted them already, plurals DO count. Those that responded and didn't count plurals can resubmit that answer. I will give an example of what I mean with this question:

let's say stevie wrote a song called, "I Sing the Word Angel Many Many Times" and the lyrics were:

This is a song about drugged out Emerald Angel
She danced like a Blue Chimpanzee
So I approached
I asked her to write this for Me
My Sweet Angel, Angel, Angel.

The answer would be:
4- "emerald Angel" one time, "angel, angel, angel" one time

You can phrase the instances however you like (some have listed all the lyrics and underlined the word angel - (you are all very thorough). Some have just said: "angel of the morning"x4. Pretty much anyway is acceptable.

For the record: There are still a bunch of bonus points points to be had for answering early.

I should also add that no one has submitted a perfect response yet, but none of the submitted ballots are too far off. Additionally, I've said before but I want to emphasize, while it will help to do well in this round, you don't have to score perfectly or really even close to perfect to still have a chance to win this. Other rounds may be worth more points... So if you can't answer all of the questions, don't give up, just send the ones you do know and guess the rest (there's no penalty for wrong answers).

Regarding #3, sometimes at the end of the song Stevie will ad-lib lyrics not on the lyrics sheet. For instance, as a song fades out, you may hear an "angel" very faintly but it is not listed in the lyrics sheet. Should these be counted in the number of times she says "Angel"?

MacMan

It's not confusing at all... The questions are there... All you have to do is answer them by the deadline! How confusing can that be? Plus... by getting a wrong answer it doesn't mean you are completely out of the game, so that's a good thing.

I like shit like this... Gives you the opportunity to read though a bunch of stuff on the hunt for answers... I always learn something that I didn't know - or had long forgotten..

04-22-2005, 02:26 PM
I'm scoring some of the last minute ones as we speak (the deadline for submission was Thurs. night). I will be posting the answers, results and round 2 late, late tonight. For the record the question that only takenbythesky got right was the Tom Petty Question, most left off Silent Night, and the first person who listed it left off The Apartment Song.

Also, Don't Come Around Here No More didn't crack the top ten, almost, but not quite. The two songs WERE Call Me and These Dreams which according to billboard both #1.

amber
04-22-2005, 02:31 PM
Thanks, poetinmyheart. It was recently debunked on here, somewhere, sometime, that "Call Me" was offered to Stevie. It was said, instead, that Stevie was approached about doing "a song" for the movie, but not Call Me, which blondie wrote. I think. Anyways, I don't care that much, cause I put "Call Me" and "These Dreams" - but it would be nice to know the truth, because I searched for a long time before I finally gave up and put "Call Me". I think Diss knows the story?

trackaghost
04-22-2005, 03:17 PM
Actually Giorgio Moroder wrote the music and Debbie Harry wrote the lyrics. I think what happened was that the song was offered to Stevie and when she refused it, it was offered to Blondie and Debbie rewrote the lyrics.

Ah! But, if Giorgio only wrote the music, then what lyrics were there for Debbie to rewrite? You mean, Debbie wrote one set of lyrics, then when Stevie said no, Debbie wrote another set of lyrics? strange.

No, I think Moroder wrote lyrics to begin with and then when Blondie got the song, Debbie rewrote them. So the song ended up being a Moroder/Harry composition. :)

Or it could be that Moroder wanted Stevie to write lyrics... now I'm confusing myself lol!

oh, I see. Originally you said he just wrote the music. For the officially released version, he did only write the music.
But if I recall correctly, Stevie was offered a finished (or nearly finished) song and passed. When Blondie came on board, Debbie wrote new lyrics to suit her and the band's style, and therefore received credit for being the song's lyricist.

ROUND 2:
The Macster in you!

Show your creative side and do something to show how much a fleetwood mac fan you are: it can be a drawing (scan it in), a photo you took or tinted (of a band member or you dressed as or in the pose of a band member), an mp3 or wav of you singing, a poem, a story (burnish anyone?), even a comedic parody song, whatever you want. There are three judges for this round each with 50 points to give out, 20 for creativity, 20 for enthusiasm and energy and 10 for authenticity. Please note: this does not need to be Stevie-centric. You can use anyone from the Mac A possible 150 points are available this round. So, it's still anybody's game.

The deadline for this round is Midnight (PST) Sunday, May 1st. The final round will have a deadline of May 9th, and on May 10th the winner will be known. I will bring the prize pack to Vegas with me in case the winner is also in vegas, otherwise it will be mailed from Vegas sometime during my week there.

Judges: I will be a judge, and xxxmx and Dissention have volunteered to be the other two judges.

I'm unclear about what you mean by "authenticity." Do you mean how realistic it is? If so, how does that apply to something like a wallpaper or a song? Indeed it seems "enthusiasm" would be rather hard to apply to some entries as well. How does one tell if a drawing is done enthusiastically?

Hope I'm not ticking off the judges with my questions! This contest is a great idea. :)

Well, we're going to clearly define those in the coming day or two (Diss, you have a PM coming to you). Essentially the idea is that you don't have to be able to sing like STevie or Lindsey or look like Mick or John to score well on this round.

Also, I have bad news for a couple of you (and myself). God's Garden was written by E. Johns, not Stevie and I did specify Stevie penned songs, so a couple folks are going to lose a point that I had given them for that song. I apologize. :(

enthusiastic - your submission conveys your interest in FM, i want to be able to feel something

Diss and I talked about it and agree with xxxxmx that these are the guidelines for judging this round. Have Fun!
Hmm, kind of lame as far as anyone who just sings goes, what with the authenticity thing. Oh, well. I don't know how to do any of the picture things, or whatever. Guess I could just drop out, anyways. Not like I had so many points, that I should continue. I guess someone else, who actually already has memorabilia, will be able to add more to their collection.

Eek! Don't drop out, that's like my biggest fear with this round was that people would be too scared to keep going (remember the PMs). Slightly tweaked copy of someone elses work applies more to photos than anything, like if I were now to submit a wall paper that just had the words changed but kept everything from the previously submiited wallpaer: that would be low on authentic, but singing a song that you chose would be a different story.

I had to work and missed round one. (Thought I had more time....*Doh*). I have round two finished, but it is kinda lengthy. What email should I send it to so all the judges can see it? Thanks for sharing that and trying to make me feel better. I just thought because my name was last on the page that I was last. It doesn't matter; I was just kidding around. This is all in good fun; that is why I was poking a little fun at myself, and congratulating everyone. Very nice of you to try to salvage my feelings though. :xoxo:

If you want to argue anything with me, feel free to via e-mail.I am open to disagreement.

Looks like I've been missing out on the fun! But before I jump in I have a question about this answer. Where did you get this setlist from? I thought Outside the Rain and Bombay Sapphires were dropped way earlier than the last Vegas show. Are you sure this isn't the setlist for the Pittsburgh opening night show that she did with Sheryl in July? Remember, if you got this setlist off a bootleg site, that those are often mislabelled.

I hope it's OK to post a portion of a review of that night I found on the Nicksfix by someone named Rick (full review can be found here: http://www.nicksfix.com/tisl_fanreviews_vegas_6th.htm). I have the relevant sentence bolded.

------------------

quoting Rick
I attended both Las Vegas shows and they were the BEST!!!!!! Friday nights set was incredible minus Bombay Sapphire. It did not sell out but I believe that was due to the high ticket prices set by the Aladdin. (booo) But it was great for us fans as you were able to move about and find a spot where you could dance and sing along without annoying others. Stevie was great. The band was great. It was just FUN FUN FUN!!! On Saturday night, it was a sell out. This was the show that had been postponed. Stevie hit the stage on fire!! Top form once again! But Stevie had a surprise for us........Sheryl Crow! WOW! No mention of her before hand and the crowd went nuts! We got the opening night set list minus Outside the Rain and Bombay Sapphire. Wish we got Bombay Sapphire, but hey, I'm not going to complain.

Perhaps someone who was there can clear up the confusion?

A couple other people have asked that, I got it off a vegas CD I've got which it seems is likely mislabeled, but since it is only a matter of two points and I am not 100% sure either way, I'm not going to change it. If the winner wins by a margin of two points AND they answered this question including outside the rain and BS then I will post some type of tie-breaker for the top-two. Otherwise, I'm not going to worry about it this time.

I have the bootleg, and Outside The Rain and Bombay Sapphires are not on it. They were both dropped by the time of the Vegas show.

I actually didn't get it right either, but it seems pretty clear the setlist of this bootleg CD is wrong. Maybe you should add points to the scores of those who put the correct one? Just a suggestion.

Me too! I have been giving standardized tests and doing grade cards this week. Also, I have been chorographing, practicing, and getting costumes for an entry in my school's teacher talent show, which is next Tuesday. It is for a good cause, even though it is a lot of work. It raises money for our school. We're nervous because we are the reining champions.
Due to all this, I have had very little time to complete my project. :distress:

Jupiter? You rock, girl! I literally got goosebumps when I listened to you. Literally.

OK, for my entry I've put together a bunch of my favorite pictures that I took during the SYW tour. Most are from the Hershey show, a couple are from Toronto & Buffalo. They are nowhere near as good as many Ledgie's that I have seen, but they're mine & I'm proud of them anyway. I never had the good fortune to be closer than 5th row, but it did give me a different perspective - most people's pics were pretty close up, but you couldn't really see the stage & lighting. The best part of many of my pics is the lighting/coloring/shadows.

Oh, tossed in a few of myself that prove my Mac obsession too. :p

I hope I'm doing this right, it's the first time I've used photobucket.....

oops - way too big! Hang on...

Ok everybody, this is my contribution to the contest. I am not too thrilled with my voice but my friends insisted that I do this. This is me singing Wild Heart to the instrumental of Can't Go Back. I remixed it and did all of the vocals myself. I think its crappy but whatever. lol :distress: (Added a 2nd link with my personal remix of Think About It. I think it is probably my best so far...I dunno lol..peer pressure to do this! )

My entries are pretty lame in comparison to the others. I also feel a real hypocrite submitting the first one because my friend and I had a long running joke about fan art and we constantly make fun of it (you know, those drawings that look nothing like the person - I hope I don't fall into that category!)

Oh well, here goes:

My drawing of Stevie, done today while watching Alias (I haven't drawn anything in about five years, it took me ages!)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v117/trackaghost/SN1/steviedrawing.jpg

And since people are submitting more than one thing, I'd also like to submit my favourite photo I took at Earl's Court of Stevie and Lindsey.

In Her

In her I can feel the pain of the world
Like prayers unanswered by God
In her I touch the anguish
That only she feels just
In her I can see the darkness
Like the time before acceptance
In her I can feel a burden
One that she solely bears
Like a wooden cross upon the back of all humanity
In her I view real life, a trueness of self,
Not looking for acceptance from most
Only those who have felt the same hopelessness at their feet
In her I can see independence, dying to be set free,
Only too scared of what lies waiting out beyond the storms
In her I see genteel frailty shielded wearily with superficial strength
As she tries to face the steely world about
In her I search the harsh world that has educated her soul
A world she wishes to alter in hopes of healing her wounds
Only to be lost down the winding road that took her gods to salvation
In her I face myself her

So, I haven't been on much this week andwas worried I wouldn't see any submissions when I checked, but geez you all went crazy and you all are so talented. I'll compile all the entries into one post around midnight tonight substituting your name for contestant A etc. Then the judges can just go off that one post. Again, results will not be known tonight, but the deadline is midnight (US PST), which gives everyone about 9.5 hours to get stuff in if you haven't already.

Again, you've all amazed me with what you've done

The judges originally had discussed Monday by midnight being a deadline for our results, but with so much stuff to go through I would be understanding if they needed more time. I'll see what everybody has to say once everything is submitted and let you know when they'll be up.

Since I can't sing, I'm submitting two drawings I made of Stevie.

On the first one, I apologize if it's a little messy...I did it completely by hand.

The second one is just kind of silly: a New Year's Card I made for a fellow Ledgie (I'll be sending it to you soon I promise!!!), thus the seemingly out of place "2005."

I'm glad you posted. Wonderful job.
