Has "Rattlesnake Shake" ever been interpreted? I thought ledgies could give it a go.

By Peter Green

Baby, if you got to rock
I got to be your rockin' horse
Baby, think you'd like to roll
Maybe your diggin' it more
They're shakin' the world
When it's time to crash
But when I get home tonight
I guess I got to shake myself

You need some love
You must have the blues
Ain't but the one thing
A good man can do
He do the shake
The rattlesnake shake
Man, do the shake
Yes, and jerk away the blues
Now, jerk it

(Instrumental)

Now, i know this guy
His name is Mick
Now, he don't care when he ain't got no chick
He do the shake
The rattlesnake shake
Yes, he do the shake
And jerks away the blues
Now, jerk it

It's about "self love".

I first interpreted the "Rattlesnake Shake" when I was 15.
Then I played it over and over again to make sure I got my interpretation just right.

I usually did this with the lights out in my bedroom and the door locked.

I later confessed to the local priest just how often I played "Rattlesnake Shake." I asked him if it was a bad thing, and he shrugged his shoulders and told me, "ain't but the one thing a good man can do."

I guess the priest must have been a Peter fan, too.

I think Sting wrote a song back when he was in the Police that applies to Johnny's post:

"Too Much Information".

this number is introduced by peter at the boston tea party as a dedication to the drummer.....mick fleetwood......peter goes on about the fact that mick went a few years whithout a little of "you-know-which".......etc....so he endulged in a some self styled psychadelic hand shaking.......

so it seems clear to me as to what the meaning of all this is. plus the show has some of the best versions of songs I ever heard. amazing, hard jamming....a must have for any Green era mac. It's fun to play for people and have them ask me who is on the box, and I tell them "Fleetwood Mac" and they don't believe me, so they say, "right now....on the box...who is playing?" so I educater them on the history. Fleetwood mac is unusual in the sence that thier later successes seemed to obliterate thier own history more than any other band I can think of.

Interesting viewpoint, Oona! I see what you mean; I suppose that is true.

And Johnny, two comments-- 1.) your priest sounds really cool  Only a guilty Catholic would feel the need to confess such a personal thing! I'm surprised you did, there was TONS I never told my priest in confession, my major sin was always "I tore a Fleetwood Mac article out of such and such magazine" --every damn time I confessed LOL.

2.) every time i see your sig now, I break into that song in my head. It was my BIL's wedding song....so pretty. anyway-I'm glad your love has come along. :)

Too funny! As a librarian, I must chastize you for tearing pages out of magazines... but, as a Fleetwood Mac fan, I can't blame you one bit! ;)

Actually, my post was really just meant to get a laugh, and was only partly true. I, being a gentleman, won't say exactly WHICH part is true!

Funny anecdote though... we had a visiting priest once, who announced from the pulpit that he'd be hearing confessions the following Saturday. He said that, being he was from out-of-state and didn't know any of us, now was our chance to confess things we may be uncomfortable confessing to our parish priest... things like infidelity, gambling, pre-marital relations, homosexuality, masturbation, and so on.

I sat there in the pew, at 16, thinking, "I'd sooner burn in hell then confess THAT!"

I think the old coot just wanted to hear all the juicy town gossip!

Thank you so much, Lis. :xoxo:

And it is a great song, isn't it? So perfect for a wedding. :D

No, but I do love that song, it oozes romance.
