Has anyone gotten the new issue of Goldmine Magazine? Someone posted on the message board on Christine McVie's website that there's an article in the new issue titled "Fleetwood Mac, the forgotten years 1972-1975". For some strange reason the focus of the article appears to be on Dave Walker. It sounds like he was interviewed for this article. He apparently referred to Bob Welch's & Christine's songs as "crap" & the writer of the article praised Dave Walker as the best live performer ever in Fleetwood Mac. Here's a picture of the magazine cover. It looks like Fleetwood Mac is the cover story. The person who posted about this article mentioned that there are some great pictures with the article as well.

I'm gonna go check the bookstores near me today and see if they have that issue. The cover shot is so tiny it's hard to see who's on it...ok wait, that's John, Mick, Bob and Chris...in the same clothes they wore for that shot in front of the the Holllywood sign.
Dave Walker interview, eh? Weird. Thanks for the info!!!

The picture is so small, I never noticed that it was from the same 1974 Hollywood photo shoot. I got the picture off of the Goldmine website. Unfortunately, you can't buy any single issues off their site. Please post if you're able to get ahold of this magazine. :)
By the way, I'm not sure there is an entire Dave Walker interview. That would be a bit bizarre, in my opinion. I'm just going by what the person posted on Christine's message board. There are apparantly some quotes from him in the article.

I did find Goldmine in Barnes and Noble but it had the Little River Band on the cover, dated Feb 4th, i think? So hopefully maybe the next issue they get it in might be the FM one....if i get it I'll let you know.

THERE IS! (an entire Dave Walker interview)
BIZZARE? You bet! It's very weird and inexplicable.
The writer obviously has a biased, inflated opinion of Dave Walker -- probably from work that he has done prior to and after his blip of a stint in Fleetwood Mac. How else do you qualify a statement like "It would be a fool who would disagree that of all of Fleetwood Mac's front men and women, few could hold a candle to Dave Walker." And the title of the interview: "FLEETWOOD MAC'S FINEST FRONTMAN" ??????huh??????
To be fair -- I never saw or heard any live performances with the band with him in it. He may have been a consumate live performer --- but regardless ---he was barely in the band for an uneasy 8 months! What kind of significant positive impact could he have had on the band? No one in the band has ever shared that kind of revisionist perspective that the writer, Dave Thompson, makes.
Are we missing something?? Was Dave Walker Fleetwood Mac's long lost holy grail....and we just didn't see it?
Not!!

Well I guess the writer Dave Thompson must be Dave Walker's one and only fan. ;) He must have forgotten about Peter Green, Bob Welch & Lindsey Buckingham. Of all the people to interview from this era, why Dave Walker? I wonder why Bob Welch wasn't interviewed.
By the way Lis, did you pick up an extra copy of the magazine?

I am heading to the stores this AM to see if the new issues are out.
Wonder if the writer is Dave's brother in law or something. :D He's inflating Dave's contributions a bit , I think.

The ONLY way I could see there being any validity to the statement that Dave was the best front man the Mac had would be if they were talking post-Jeremy, pre-Stevie. Weston wasn't really a front man. Welch mostly seemed uneasy being the emcee (he talked so much, but would get lost in what he was saying). Danny, from the limited amount of footage I've seen of him, was maybe too cerebral about the guitar to have much impact as a frontman. I've read reviews, too, that said he was boring. And Christine didn't come to life on stage until 1975. So, by default, Walker could easily have had the best stage presence of anybody fronting the Mac between Kiln House and the white Fleetwood Mac album. Now, having been born in 1974, I really wouldn't know.

My friend has a subscription to Goldmine, and she brought me hers. I thought that the article itself was very fair, and I thought that it gave credit to some years in Fleetwood Mac that don't receive the credit they deserve. However, I thought that the interview with Dave Walker was quite tilted and biased. He seems jaded about the whole thing. I mean my Lord, how long was he in the Mac, like a second! He deserves a whole interview about as much as.......well you know the saying.

To put it another way, there are additional musicians who've been with the band longer.

It always makes me chuckle that there's like ONE picture of him with the band.

There are a few extra pictures of him in Mick's book(the large coffee table book).
The only reason I can come up with as to why he was interviewed for that article is that he released a new solo album last year. Bob Welch would have been a far better choice in my opinion. However, I still liked the article & I LOVED the picture of the band on the cover.

I also would've liked to hear from Welch instead. But I guess Dave is entitled to say his piece....
LOVE the pic on the cover. Anytime i see a new pic of the band I get a rush. :D

Nope, I'm one as well, and Marty told me about this one also:

:) I'm sure you're right though that the interview was done with Dave to plug his new album. I liked it though, I can't get enough of the, um, I'll just say, "overlooked" members. :)

Well, damn...how ironic is it that Dave Walker's "Ambulators" has two ex-Peter Green Splinter Group members (Nigel Watson & Roger Cotton)?
The branches of the Fleetwood Mac Family Tree are more like vines!

Yeah, if you scroll down about a quarter of the way on this page:
http://www.black-sabbath.com/personnel/timeline.html
...to where it has the very brief notes on "mark II", you can download an early version of "Junior's eyes" that they performed with Walker, his only public appearance with them (which was on the January 6, 1978 broadcast of a BBC Midlands show called "Look hear". This must be the audio of it, I understand it has shown up on many audio Sab boots so SOMEONE out there MUST have the video to this. If by chance that person is here, please contact me about this, I'm sure we can work out a trade, but I know, I'm dreaming. :)
