I know any contribution is good and welcome, but... I expected she could give more than 25k. I have no idea how wealthy is Stevie, but being single, not a family to mantain, and after 2 consecutive tours, plus all those records.. I don't know. I guess she is very wealthy, but again, maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe it's because I read Sandra Bullock gave a million. Ok, I'm not saying Stevie should give a million, that's a looot of money. But, I still think 25k is not big deal.

But, even if she hasn't, a quarter of a million dollars isn't anything to sneeze at! :)

I'm not that impressed. I feel that it's everyone's duty to pass some doe. It's not that much for her. And if she makes 2,5 million dollars a year (does she?) then it's one percent of a years salary. Well...not to brag about charity, but I did that too. So I think it's very good of her, but all in a reasonable human duty-perspective.

Nothing to blow up bigger than it is. I wouldn't love her more for it. besides. Is that possible?

Isn't it possible that STevie gave money to several different charities? This is ONE donation we know about to the Canadian Red Cross. I know Sheryl Crow is involved with some concert thingie to raise money..maybe Stevie will participate in that. She has always been a giving, caring soul and I imagine this tragedy has impacted her greatly , as it has us all.

We don't know how much Stevie has given, likely most of her contributions aren't public...like her contributions to other charities...this was a single event to the Canadian Red Cross, likely not her only donation--AND if it was ...I for one do not think it's EVERYONE'S responsibility to give...but if we choose to do so that's great, certainly not our responsibility.
President Bush only gave $10,000 so atleast she gave more than him--lol..

Sandra Bullock chose to make her donation public, likely to encourage more celebs to donate...but MOST celebs keep the donation amounts private..and yes she CERTAINLY has enough money to give much more than that...Forbes had F-Mac as one of the highest paid bands of 03 with over $45 in earnings in 2003, certainly Stevie made a nice chunk of that..

Oh and on the Hawaii subject...I dont know if he knew what he was talking about...but in an interview Taku gave he said "Stevie and Mick both have houses there (Hawaii)"

Plus, she may have given much more to other charities - certainly she gave to the AZI and she has given then probably over a million already with all the benefits and the rights they own to Beautiful Child, when she sang on the last tour and it was on the DVD.

As an aside, I still maintain that this horrible tragedy came at the worst possible time because people are paying for Christmas. YEt, the world seems to have somehow found the money - which is GREAT news

I think it's great that Stevie gives to causes like this. And then I read some people criticizing Stevie for giving because they think it's not enough. AND what the hell is with Stevie and Hawai  She's there every other week. I have a feeling she'll live there some day down the road.
I hope she takes care of herself & keeps informed of the active seismology of whatever area she hangs out in.

Aside from the ever-present danger of remotely generated tsunamis hitting the shores of Hilo & elsewhere (usually from quakes in the Aleutians, Japan or off the west coast of South America), there is the danger -- which scientists are just now beginning to understand -- of locally generated tsunamis from volcanic flanks & submarine slumps.

We've got evidence of huge landslides affecting the Hawaiian Islands. Gerard Fryer & several of his associates at the University of Hawaii are studying them. Fryer thinks they seem to occur during every interglacial (there was one 110,000 years ago & another 80,000 years ago).

They're modeling the slide known as Alika 2, & are finding that tsunamis generated by the slide ran up to 800 feet on Oahu. (Oahu got hit hard because it was only 170 miles from the source. Honolulu is about the same distance; it would be wiped out in such an event in the future.) Deposits of coral & pulverized shells at high elevations in the Hawaiian Islands indicate humongous tsunamis in past geologic time. There is a 110,000-year-old reef off Kohala Volcano (on the big island) which is now at a depth of 1,400 feet -- but the wave deposit spread from the shoreline up to 200 feet above sea level, which means the tsunami from the Alika 2 slide would have run up 1,600 feet above sea level.

There has been no giant Hawaiian landslide so far during this interglacial. You can read the group's press release at:
www.soest.hawaii.edu/SOEST_News/PressReleases/Megatsunami/
