Hi everyone.. Happy New Year x

Kind of a banal question about Stevie, but I was at some website and saw a mention that she was or had been vegetarian, which I had never heard mentioned before. Any truth to that?

I was vegetarian for eight years and just went back to it, so I guess that's why I'm interested

I'm not sure about the past, but I currently doubt it. Didn't someone win a dinner with Stevie a few years back and report that she ordered lamb? As most of us know, she has also been/is on the Atkins program. Though technically it can be done vegetarian, it poses serious challenges.

(Funny you brought this up...I was a vegetarian for over 10 years and last year started the Atkins program to help a health problem, and became a "meatatarian" again. Not to turn this into a controversial diet thread, but I feel better like night and day! )

I love nutrition talk. I was vegan for a few years, and veg for a bit before that. But I think that Veg's rarely get the protein and good nutrition they need. A lot of Veg's i know just eat more bread products instead of veggies. And you need a good protein balance to keep your insulin response working right. Of course, most Americans eat too much meat, which is bad, too. Oh, and if you're a veg, i think it's really important that you take Omega 3 vitamins, or eat lots of flaxseed oil. Glad you're feeling better! that's awesome! :wavey:

Wow. This is the first I've heard about Stevie ever being a vegetarian.

As for the vegan thing, that does mean no dairy products whatsoever, right? I. could. not. do. that.

It was hard, in a way. Can you say "soy butter"? (it's really good, tastes like butter, after all, both are mostly fat, just different kinds!) Also, at the same time, I was doing "no refined sugar" :D

And ice cream. And yogurt. And milk in my cereal. (Which I eat often). I would be so screwed.

The Atkins, right. I guess she's not then...

I am currently only vaguely vege.. not eating red meat or birds. Saw a few awful shows on the meat industry and just can't face it now.

Personally I feel ok without red meat/chicken.. it's bread/potatoes/ sugar that makes me feel like crap. I have pretty much cut them out...

..next is coffee i guess.

I totally understand that. I've basically never been able to eat those things.

sounds good! hope you eat fish, although you have to be careful with mercury...salmon is usually ok, and has all the best vitamins and fats, but, farm salmon is iffy. :D

Wasn't there something that said Stevie ordered steak and stuff for dinner while on the SYW tour?

I think it was one of the tour diaries.

Ok.. well there are a few vege websites out there claiming Stevie as one of their own  cheeky beggars.

amber- nice to see you again :) I have salmon once or twice a week, and cod liver oil capsules occasionally. I would find it hard to be vegan.. I like my yogurt and milk.

I think there was an interview where Stevie mentioned eating steak, and also having to be really strict with her salt intake because it would make her bloated -- and that was a big no-no because she wore corsets every night?
Or did I totally make that up?

I know during the SYW Tour that she said she likes to eat crab legs (or some form of crab) at some place in Atlanta. Crab is meat.

Well, looks like she enjoys lamb, steak, and crab's legs... (and corsetry :) ) so not a very strict vegetarian then. Obviously the websites I saw had their wires crossed, unless she had a moment of vegetarianism back in the 70s or something.

I'd last about 10 seconds as a vegetarian. I wouldn't miss the red meat, really (except for the occasional grilled-out hamburger) . But I couldn't live without chicken or dairy products.

I don't recall having ever read or heard a past interview with Stevie where she said she was a vegetarian.

I think someone somewhere probably marked her down as a vegetarian, and other sites picked up on it.

I do not think she is or ever was a veg. I remember awhile back there was a guy who posted on one of the chats, maybe the Nicksfix, and he was a chef at the Four Seasons in Philly. He was a big Lindsey fan and he told this story about Stevie coming to Philly during her TISL tour and after the show, like at one in the morning, she ordered dinner and he had to prepare it. I remember him saying she had steak with no seasonings and green beans with no butter. Now, he could have been full of crap but I did not get that impression as he was more of an LB fan and was just relaying the story. I also remember when Stevie was in Philly for the first SYW show they did there, that her and Mick went to this famous steak house. The had a blurb in the local paper about them being there.
Stevie also told that story on MTV with Sandra Bernhardt about loving this restaurant in Atlanta that had the most "fabulous crabs".
So I think she eats meat. Oy.

My ex-boyfriend was a vegetarian - well a pesco-veg (he ate fish) but his diet is awful!!! It mostly consists of fatty non=meats - and that boy can go through cereal (high sugar kinds) like no one's business.....not good...

On the other hand I have another friend who is Vegan and though it appears to be the most high-maintenence pain in the ass thing ever - she eats well and takes tons of supplements and such....too much trouble for me - but grill me up a piece of meat and I'm happy...

Vegetarianism has never interested me...I love all meats too much (well except lamb and duck...can't eat those...)

Awww come on guys, she was probably a vegitarian back in the early 70s when all she and Lindsey could afford was Mac'n Cheese;) Afterall in college I practically became a partial vegitarian since red meat was such a pain in the a** to cook...and is way more $$$ then pasta.

I haven't eaten any meat (or fish) since I was 15, and will probably never again. So it's been 8 years now. I just can't fathom ever sinking my teeth into the flesh of a dead animal. :distress: Everyone thought I would cave in when I was pregnant...I proved them wrong!

As for me I just had Chicken Parmesean tonight. It was fabulous, too.

I would be very surprised to hear that Stevie is a vegetarian because of the whole Atkins thing.

But this topic is very interesting (and timely) seeing as how I was at Alice Cooper's restaurant in Phoenix last week and on the menu there is an item called, "the Stevie Nicks Gardenburger."  I just about wet my pants, I mean, gardenburger?!!? She would love that.

Seeing as how I'm a meat eater, I had the Megadeth meatloaf instead. ;)

Was never much of a meat eater. Although I loved cheeseburgers. But then about 15 years ago this girl gave me a book called Diet For A New America which shed some light on the meat industry and the deplorable conditions in America's slaughterhouses and I was like I cant be part of this. So I purchased some videos that were shot undercover in slaughterhouses. The employees that work in these places are complete morons, they treat the animals like shit and laugh about it. The animals were screaming, there was blood all over the place. It's all very sad. I don't eat meat because I think it is going to make me any healthier. I just do not want to support such a fucked up industry.

I read that book, too, and was mainly appalled at the detriment eating cattle especially takes on the environment...I was Vegan for a few years...backslid, now...

:) The Stevie Nicks Gardenburger sounds bizarre... was it carb free?

I have stopped eating red meat and chicken/turkey/whatever because of the way they are killed, and the whole industry behind it, too.
