DISCLAIMER: My undying love for Stevie should not be doubted because I dislike a number of her songs. If I met her, I would still melt and hug her a thousand times, my walls are still covered with photos of her (in some she's even smiling! :D), and I must say I adore almost all the songs not mentioned here.

Hate:

I Miss You
When I See You Again

Dislike:

Desert Angel
After the Glitter Fades
The Highwayman
Rock a Little
The Nightmare
I Sing for the Things (mainly for the vocals)
Alice
Two Kinds of Love
Cry Wolf
Sable on Blond
Love's a Hard Game to Play
Too Far From Texas
Fall From Grace
Love Is
Dreams
Goodbye Baby
Thousand Days
Free Fallin'
Reconsider Me
Somebody Stand By Me
Gold

everything I've heard from Street Angel except "Blue Denim"

Hillary :sorry:

god, that would take a while. I'll have to think about it. However, I do love Gold, and like Reconsider Me, I sing for the things, cry wolf, Too far from texas, Fall From grace, goodbye baby, and Love's a hard game to play. What's your deal?
Just kidding. :xoxo:

That's not too too bad. :p I was expecting worse.

Fall From Grace, Sable on Blond, and ATGF are hard to swallow, though.

I think by now, everyone knows what songs I dislike/hate. There are only three. I know, I know...I'm J. Stew 's long lost twin.

-Desert Angel
-Nightmare
-Alice

....That's all. Everything else is WONDERFUL!

to save time, Dissention should make a list of Stevie songs he actually likes. Otherwise, we'd be here reading all day.

I don't think there are Stevie songs I hate, but I really really don't like:

Docklands
Jane
Desert Angel
Two Kinds Of Love
Sometimes it's a Bitch
Unconditional Love

I hope Dissention will write the list, it would give us all a great long read and a potential playlist for the holidays ;)

Well, maybe there are lot of songs from her albums. In fact I don't like to listen an entire STevie album, specially TISL. But focusing on the most popular singles, I would say...

Rhiannon (Enchanted version)
No question asked. So dissapointed when GH was released.
Beauty and the Beast
Desert angel

I like Rhiannon, and I looove Dreams. MAybe this song is overrated, but I love it anyway. It moves me to the late 70s

There aren't many Stevie songs that I strongly dislike, only:

- The Nightmare - she says so much, but I can't understand anything
- I Still Miss Someone
- Too Far From Texas
- Rose Garden (I don't know why  )
- Somebody Stand By Me
- When I See You Again
- Silver Girl

Including demos...

Cathouse Blues
Eeeloomay
Goldfish and the Ladybug
Docklands
Fire Burning
I Still Miss Someone
Jane (for the chimpanzee)

I don't strongly hate any of her songs. These are the ones I usually skip if they come into the Winamp shuffle. I'm sure there are more, but I'll save that for the rest of y'all.

Not including demos, cause I don't care for lots of them, um...I don't care for:

FM:

WISYA
Silver Girl
The Second Time

Solo:

I Still Miss Someone (OMG...kill me now. LOL)
Think About It
That Made Me Stronger
I Sing for the Things (Prefer the countrified demo)
Love's a Hard Game to Play

Same for "Smile At You"

Wow...Stevie songs that I honestly dislike. Thing is, in every song there's something that I love, so it'll be really tough. Each song has its own beauty, brilliance, uniqueness, etc. I understand many songs are not examples of good songwriting or production, but I'm emotionally attached to most every song of hers in one way or another. Anyway, I'll try...

-I honestly dislike "Some Become Strangers," most of it anyway.

-I honestly dislike the production/arrangement on "Docklands."

-I honestly dislike "Mick The Screecher," if that counts.

There. That's all for everyone. That's all for me. I'm addicted to the music of Stevie Nicks. Must be just exactly what I need.

For me, it's really not entire songs I dislike, just portions of them. Sometimes it's a huge portion, sometimes a small one.

Docklands (dislike the verses, love the rest)

Desert Angel (I really like everything about the song expect Stevie bellowing, "Operation Desert Shield!," "Operation Desert Storm!!!")

Gate And Garden (leaves me somewhat underwhelmed, but I do love the coda)

Two Kinds Of Love (I love everything but the verses)

That's really about all.
Like Curtis said (maybe it was in another thread), I have a lot of performers that I consider myself a big fan of, even though I dislike a lot of their material (Bonnie Tyler, for instance)... but my passion for Stevie (and Fleetwood Mac in general) exists because there isn't one song in the entire catalog that I legitimately hate. Just a few that I dislike to some degree, or that leave me slightly underwhelmed.

I don't hate or dislike any of them. Even "Desert Angel" and "Welcome To The Room...Sara" go through the eardrums nicely during the holiday eating competitions.

It's taken me a while to get into some of the songs but I don't think there are any I actually hate or even dislike. I've even grown to like Jane and Silver Girl, which I used to find unlistenable.

I think my least favourite song then would be Rose Garden, only because I find it a little boring.

A lot of my favourites seem to be appearing on the hate/dislike lists. Alice, WTTR...S, Gate and Garden, Two Kinds Of Love, Sable On Blond, When I See You Again, All of Street Angel...I love these songs!

Silver Girl..high tech world? Oh my.
That Made Me Stronger
Love Changes
I Miss You
All of Street Angel, except RG, BD and Destiny
Gate and Garden...ugh ugh ugh
I really only HATE the first two, HAEWAFY and SG...the rest I just sort of dislike most of the time. I do like the fact LB is on I Miss You. My list of songs I love is so long! Most of the time I can find something about all of her songs that I like. I have never, ever liked HAEWAFY..I am not s
ure exactly why. I do adore the 98 Day in the Garden version.

Off the top of my head:

The Second Time (almost unbearable)
I Still Miss Someone (thankfully it's at the end of the album, just remember to switch it off quick!)
Unconditional Love (terrible, terrible lyrics)
Just Like A Woman (utterly inexcusable, Bob must have been squirming the whole time)
Cry Wolf (it's a bland cover, couldn't Stevie have written another song instead?)
Love's A Hard Game To Play (Bret Michaels, Poison, Every Rose Has A Thorn, need I say more)
God's Garden (her voice is a drone)
If I Were You (it's a Belinda Carlisle reject, what's it doing on a Stevie album)
Docklands (Stevie singing about laundromats doesn't work for me)
Love Is Dangerous

Dislike:
That Made Me Stronger
Street Angel
One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star
Sometimes It's A Bitch
Desert Angel

Feel sad about the lack of love for Sable On Blond and Wild Heart songs in general.

You BASTARD! Oh, right, you love Alice, that explains a lot...

JK, everyone has the right to their opinions (no matter how wrong they are)

I also can't say I really HATE any song, but I usually skip:

Thousand Days
RAL (big disappointment to me after BD & WH - I thought ALL her title songs should be incredible)
Street Angel (uh, see above)
Desert Angel (same as Le Stew, I LOVE it up til the shouting at the end)
Kick It
Whole Lotta Trouble (I think it's those damn horns...)

Fire Burning
I Still Miss Someone
Every Day
I Miss You
HAEWAFY (I'm with ya, Kelly. I'll listen to most live versions, I do like her "NOTHING!" at the end, but I never bother with the album version)

i can't believe you''re trying to dissect Stevie's lyrics as a condition for liking the song.. I just liked it cause it rocked, and she wailed on it, and it was more dynamical then a lot of the Street Angel songs. I Sing For the THings. i usually like fast songs, but to me that song is so heartfelt, and heartbreaking. and pretty short and concise, which is good. :wavey: Yes, i'm at my parents. A puff would sure be great right now. My mom is watching Jessye Norman (the opera lady) sing an Xmas song with a trumpet player for accompaniment. it's like, strident times two...

This thread is so interesting-there's a Lindsey one too over on the Lindsey ledge..some of the choices I would agree with but others are some of my favorite songs-like Jane, for instance..

I don't think I hate any of her songs but I am unimpressed with:

Seven Wonders
Everybody Finds Out
Illume
Street Angel in general, with the exception of Jane, Destiny and Rose Garden
After the Glitter Fades
Enchanted
Welcome to the Room Sara

When I say unimpressed I don't mean I don't like the song, but rather that I think she's done better if you know what I mean.

GARBO-BARFO---Well at least I had a bathroom song on the Enchanted Tour
Every Day
Sorcerer
Too Far From Texas
Tow Kinds Of Love
Imperial Hotel

The Tower
12-25-2004, 05:59 PM
Here are the worst.... in order- starting with the worst one of all...

The Nightmare
Greta
Love Changes
Docklands
That Made Me Stronger
Cry Wolf
Love's a Hard Game to Play
Mirror, Mirror
Sister Honey
Paper Doll
Some Become Strangers
Sometimes It's a Bitch
Unconditional Love
Just Like a Woman
Thrown Down
Imperial Hotel
Sorcerer
How Still My Love

Actually, the top five are equally vile. "The Nightmare" wins only because she took so many great Tusk images and shit all over them with a horrible synth background and terrible background vocal passages- AND took those images and drained them of any relevance and coherency.

Someone shoulda just smacked her and said "Snap out of it!!!" before she released that piece o'shit.

Everybody Finds Out? I LOVE that song. Wow it is so interesting how people have such vastly different tastes. Amber, I really like "I Sing for the Things" too..something about her voice is so vulnerable and innocent sounding. I also like Fire Burning as well......

Egads! I've just compiled my list and it's longer than Dissention's! And I'm a Chiffon Head and love Stevie to the ends of this earth! But after carefully reviewing the songs on my I-Pod--it's a lot longer list that I thought it would be:

Hate:
The Nightmare (yes, it is a nightmare)
Desert Angel
Sable on Blonde
Thousand Days
Somebody Stand by Me (not as long as you're singing that song, I'm not)
Imperial Hotel (That's one hotel I hope to never have to check into)
Docklands (Stevie as a working class girl--uh, NO).
Sister Honey
Fire Burning (I wish that this song would have burned up in that fire)
When I See You Again (sounds like a therapy session committed to vinyl)
Battle of the Dragon (Someone needs to slay the Dragon & this song)
Ooh My Love (ooh what a horrible song)
Street Angel
Sorcerer (love a couple of the demo versions out there though)

Dislike:
Love's a Hard Game to Play
Reconsider Me (it's not a horrible version but I love the late, great Warren Zevon so much that anything less than his version just doesn't cut it for me)
Listen to the Rain
That Made Me Stronger
Jane (parts of this song I love, but the chimpanzees????)
Love Changes
Blue Denim
Running Through The Garden (I can't run away fast enough from this one)
Some Become Strangers
Bombay Sapphire (love the demo version of this that's floating around out there, hate the album version)
Kind Of Woman (I have a love/hate relationship with this song)
Just Like A Woman (Just shoot me now)
Greta
Rose Garden

And I haven't even compiled a list of the dreadful demos like Goldfish and the Ladybug. . . .

I am a bit shocked at the lack of Sorcerer love myself. I prefer the old version with Linds much more though. I do like how she used the higher vocals on the TISL version but still, the song needs Lindsey to be complete, at least for me. I have always liked the song, mostly for the imagery it brings to my mind of a young, innocent SnL, shopping their 12 demos around big, bad Hollywood. "all around black ink darkness......show me the high life..". Its interesting to hear Stevie writing/singing from that perspective. Not knowing if they would make it, looking for someone to show her the way, being afraid of all the unknown and the lifestyle, yet yearning for that "high life". That is probably the reason I like Garbo so much too, for the glimpse I get into Stevie's real feelings when she was so young.

i can't believe you''re trying to dissect Stevie's lyrics as a condition for liking the song..

Love Is Like A River is a bad song, but it blows Kick It out of the water. The only true rocker on the album.

I liked what Rolling Stone had to say about I Sing For the Things, especially how they tore her to shreds over the "I'll take off my cape for you" line. GREAT review.

I think it has to do with the overproduction and what they did to her voice. It's cold as ice on most of the songs. A lot of the lyrics are top-notch, though. The title song is one of her best ever.

Silver Girl (blech!)
Say You Will (I'm sick to death of this song!)
I Miss You
Everyday
Greta
Gate and Garden
Two Kinds of Love (mainly because I can't stand Bruce Hornsby's voice!)
Most of Rock a Little except the title track and I Sing for Things.

And a few covers I wish she wouldn't have done:
Free Fallin' (I think Tom did it fine the first time around)
It's Only Love (I know Sheryl wrote this for Stevie but her version is better!)
It's Late (I liked it at first but now I skip it every time)

However, Stevie's version of Reconsider Me makes up for the bad covers!

I don't get all the hatin' on Dreams, I love that song. I know it's been played to death but that doesn't make it a bad song! I thought I was critical of Stevie's music but after reading some hate lists I realize I am not so much.

I hate When I See You Again and Welcome to the Room Sara. Also hate Desert Angel and Jane.

I dislike some stuff on Rock A Little, man her voice was shredded and she was so out of it. I don't like the production of a lot of the songs on OSOTM but I like the songs themselves. Someone else said it, it's the horns, eww. There should be more guitar on the songs too. I'm one of those people who didn't think SA was that bad and I even liked Docklands (ducks from eggs/tomatoes/etc).

That said, some of Stevie's songs have really had to grow on me, I didn't like them at all at first. I didn't like Beauty and the Beast, HAEWAFY, Sister Honey, Nightmare (still icky), Sometimes it's a Bitch, Love's a Hard Game to Play... Then I listen to the songs more and they grow on me and I like them.

Haha, I feel guilty if I do not like a Stevie song because I am so "loyal".

And folks who don't like Gypsy and Sara? I don't understand.

I don't get all the hatin' on Dreams, I love that song. :shrug:My incredibly low tolerance for that song has nothing to do with how good the song is and everything to do with the fact that I have a personal problem with someone saying that the sound of a heartbeat could drive them mad, since that is my all-time favorite sound by a landslide. So I have to agree that it's a great song; I just can't bring myself to like it.

So, this one chair was thrown across the room, and whenever someone tried to take it to sit in it, some crazy chick would start screaming, "Don't sit in it! It's the crab chair!" And then people would tell stories about how they lived in the same suite with the "crab girl" and how they refuse to use the toliets or showers. That was a trip. Ah, freshman year.

At times it can be annoying, but really, when you think about, it's sort of like a conversation with your family or friends. You start out on one topic and then go off on various tangents during the course of the conversation, and then, typically, the discussion comes back around to the original topic, or it dies out and a new conversation begins.

In that context, it's actually pretty cool that we can do that here. :)

[QUOTE=GateandGarden]My incredibly low tolerance for that song has nothing to do with how good the song is and everything to do with the fact that I have a personal problem with someone saying that the sound of a heartbeat could drive them mad, since that is my all-time favorite sound by a landslide. So I have to agree that it's a great song; I just can't bring myself to like it.

Wow. I always took it to mean when she was gone all he'd have was his heartbeat to listen to as he yearned for her presence, remembering what he had, what he lost. Hmm, how arrogant?

I have never even thought of that line that way but I definitely see your point. Also for years I thought it was drives you back. Not my fault, Stevie's unintelligible!

What is with Italians? Their hairlines recede by 50, go almost bald by 60, yet have more body hair than a chimp. My neighbor when I was growing up grossed me out so badly when he used to mow the lawn with his shirt off. His back was so hairy I thought I had found Sasquatch.
hey!!!! I'm not that hairy. well...ok...um...but still!!!! actually i'm not, but i'll say it again. it's the price to pay for being so cool as to be italian.

I don't mind threads that stray off the original topics at all. In fact I enjoy them most times. I miss those off topic arguments between you and CarneVaca. But it seems now, EVERY thread turns into the JS and Curtis love affair show. And it's OK in one thread, but it's every other thread.

Don't worry, Hillary. Some people do love listening to the heartbeat of someone they care for.

My ex-boyfriend used to lay his head on my chest to listen to my heartbeat, in fact. It was kinda cute though when he commented on how fast my heartbeat was, and shyly asked if it was because he excited me.
I hated to tell him that my heart always races, because of my anxiety. :o

Way to ruin a romantic moment, eh?

Stew, that would have been a nice time to tell a "little white lie". Hehe. BTW, I can relate on the anxiety thing, I have battled it my whole life. I've never quite been agoraphobic though although close. I've been treated though and am soo much better. Fight the beast, man. Hehe. :wavey:

That reminds me of when someone in the dormitory supposedly had crabs and some people were convinced that sitting in the chair she sat in in the computer lab would give other people crabs.

Anyway, not to distract from the question I asked dissention a few posts earlier that he still hasn't answered. With all the flirtatious and sexual dialogue we've got going on this board, we can at least entertain something that is of real interest to me. :p :)

Hillary

Under certain circumstances it would be possible to get crabs from a chair, but it would involve people not wearing underwear and such.

Yeah, I probably should have told him a sweet little lie... though I did reassure him that he definitely excited me.

You know, now that I'm talking about him, I really miss him. He was sweet and kind, gentle and cute. Then his ex-boyfriend got wind that we were dating, he got jealous, and convinced J. to get back together with him.

For the record, they were history once more about two months later.
And, also for the record, he has since apologized to me for all of that -- explaining that he was very confused at the time, and "didn't know a good thing when it was right in front of (his) face."

This thread has really turned into something very enjoyable. I enjoy the sound of a heartbeat; I like listening to my kitty's heartbeat when she's sleeping. :)I love listening to animal's hearts, too! We found a really, really sweet stray cat outside the dorm once and my first thought was to go grab one of my stethoscopes to listen to his heart. He was so comfortable with us that I could hear nothing but purring, though! And I'm always trying to listen to all my friend's pet's hearts. (Did I do all those apostrophes right?)

Anyway, I'm glad that you and Brian said that, because I was so upset last night that I just went to bed all miserable and pathetic. It saddens me to no end to imagine that someone couldn't appreciate it on any level, considering it's my whole world. It would tear me apart to not be able to share it with someone who is special to me. And it makes me think of the aforementioned friend I've been trying to broach the subject with. I can't begin to figure out how to explain it to her. She knows about my stethoscope collection and she has absolutely nothing to say about it. I started thinking how devastated I would be if she were to say that it's simply gross and/or disconcerting. So, thank you for the positive comments. :)

You're welcome. My kitty was sleeping on my bed last night but he woke up so when I tried to listen to his heart he was purring away. I have never heard of anyone so caught up in listening to hearts! It is the fountain of life though and where we say our love is. Begin unsolicited advice -- I would say before broaching the subject with your friend talk to her about this hobby of yours. She may not invite it but try not to take it personally. Then again, she may be fine with it. -- End unsolicited advice.

I haven't had much luck with that, and it sounds like I'm not alone. I really appreciate the advice. That's a beautiful line and I couldn't agree more--it is the "fountain of life and where we say our love is." That sums up my feelings I've held all of my life. It was you who remembers everything, not Curtis. Well it's easy to confuse you too since you are twins  But serously, almost none of the things I say on those issues should mean much, since I didn't really mean it all that much. And I think I've maybe said 1 or 2 things that MAY be considered homophobic, but how quickly you gorget how I wasw on your side in that Ann Coulter board thing. I am not too fond of Sometimes It's a Bitch, from Timespace, and I never understood why she decided to sing it... stevie is not plain speaking in songs, usually, and sometimes it's a bitch, sometimes it's a breeze doesn't sound like anything she'd write... ever. Similarly, though I like her Free Fallin', it is not entirely convincing, if you know what I mean?

Some songs from Belladonna and Street Angel (Kick it, or Jane, for example) are inferior compared to songs like Sara, Seven Wonders, Has Anyone Ever Written etc etc... but I still like them

And I think he doesn't remember the stuff 'cause he seems to be a lot more easy-going than I am. But I knew you were against Bush and appeared to be democratic and/or flexible in other ways, so it's hard for me to understand why you say these things unless you just want to yank people's chains.

And I'm not trying to be difficult, but the thing about homosexuality being a "horrible life-long disease" is decidely homophobic. It's comparable to me saying that your heterosexuality is a "horrible life-long disease." It's a part of who you are and there's nothing inherently wrong with it.
