Since "Candlebright", "Sorcerer", "Goodbye Baby", "Smile at You", and "Running Through the Garden" managed to leave the vaults-

What Stevie demo would you most like to see come to fruition on her new solo album???

I vote for:

"Baby Doll"

"The Dealer"

and

"Space Needle"

The Crystal (somebody just can't seem to get back to it)
All the King's Horeses

The most recent to be leaked...i'm pulling for "My Heart" Of course, there are many others that deserve a place on that album as well but I just think this song is beautiful.

Yep - and tinker with it just a little!!!!!!

Space Needle - how they/she have not realized the potential of this song just escapes me to NO end.

The Dealer - only if she would sing it like she meant it!!!!!!!

Yes...just a tiiiiiny bit of tinkering.

I LOVE Space Needle but for some reason, other than you and I, I haven't heard many people rave about it sadly. It's a long song, yes, but I really love her lyrics and there's something about it that is just gorgeous.

It SOOOOOO reminds me of Sara - the mysticism, the layering, the veiled majesty, the yearing - all of it - to me it screams instant hit!

For that matter, My Heart screams instant hit as well. The lyrics are so personal and yet so universal - I mean who doesn't have or wouldn't want to close their eyes with a flood of emotion when someone speaks a former love's name - that is just beautiful - at least to me.

Interestingly, I think the song SYW - is the same thing - who would not want that electricity of love - that fever dance? I think the production of the song SYW and the lackluster live version - however - limited it  - BUT the potential was so there with that song.

Definitely Space Needle. It's an amazing song. The Dealer would be cool too. I also love Mistaken Love, If You Were My Love, and Sanctuary but I don't know if I would like new versions as much as I love the old versions.

If this gets released with that awful backwards metaphor intact it will ruin an otherwise decent song. This is one case where Stevie needs to change her lyrics no matter how pretty she thinks they sound. It's not a matter of poetry. Leaving that line the way it is, (the one about the windows like eyes to the soul) well, it's too ignorant even for Stevie.

"EYE-AYES.... like the windows to the soul...."

Nah. I have to say I prefer it the way she sang it, even if the metaphor is backwards.
'Sides, Alanis Morrisette wrote an entire song about irony and never once mentioned anything that was legitimately ironic. Yet, the song was still quite popular! (Ok, now maybe THAT'S ironic. ;) )

It just invites sniping by those who can't take anything she says seriously becasue she seems to have nothing serious to say.
Her poetic license needs to be revoked for verbal abuse. :sorry:

Not if it makes her sound like an ignorant fool. Stevie needs to care more about such things at this point in her career. There's a difference between figurative language and literal meaning. If you speak figuratively throughout a song then it isn't a big deal if things aren't worded properly, but if you're speaking literally you can't just throw people a curve like that. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Those lyrics are as literal and blunt as anything she's ever written. She needs to keep things flowing in that direction. A huge brain fart like that is unnerving unless you're trying to taunt your audience.
Stevie turned punk behind my back?

Eh, I still feel that if you wrote the song, and your name is on the song, and you think it sounds good, and you're happy with it, then phrase it however you wanna phrase it.
It might get criticized, but at least you did it your way.

Life sucks when you spend too much time worrying about what other people will think, or when you expend considerable amounts of energy trying to please everyone. Trust me, I know.

But anyway, I just had this debate a week or two ago, so I don't want to get into it again. :xoxo:

It is ROCK AND ROLL people  Sheebus

Did ya ever stop to think that maybe she is looking through a window clandestinely at him (presumably LB) doing something with someone (like playing with his kids) and is saying that window is like an eye to the soul of LB - in other words, he is revealing it by being carefree and without the reservation of one being watched  Or, maybe she is talking about the windows of time that they have had together and looking back through them is like looking at eyes to the soul.

Those are both very poetic and very grammatically correct AND all three are beautiful to me and apparently alot of other people.

Is this the "updated for the 21st century" version of this song with guest stars Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, Xtina Aguilera and Li'l Kims???

It was the "stanken love" line that did it for me.

I love many unreleased Stevie tunes, but I will list the ones I really think she could still do & do very well, and would fit in perfectly on a new album, IMO.

Blue Water
Watchdevil (I would LOVE to hear the "beware of the danger..." verse in her current voice. )

I personally think that the next album should be called "Space Needle." The lyrics seem to fit nicely for an artist who has matured and seen alot of the good and bad of rock 'n roll (of course, it all depends on what theme Stevie decides to go for, ala Shangri~La).

Here are some songs that I would love to hear:

Space Needle
Lady From The Mountain
Sanctuary
The Dealer (with Tom Petty)
She Loves Him Still
All The Beautiful Worlds
Mistaken Love
My Heart

Another idea - Stevie mentioned in the "Ask Stevie" answers that she would like to see remastered special editions of Bella Donna, The Wild Heart, etc. put out possibly next year... I would love for demos like The Dealer and Julia and Belle Fleur to be included. Casual fans (and the mass market) could then get some history of these demos as they hear them, as well as some new versions, for the first time. For example, Planets Of The Universe, from TISL and Rumours Remastered. Wouldn't this rock everybody and everything?! ;)

The Stevie demos that ended up on the remasters were all for songs that ended up officially released on albums. Stevie has said she doesn't like people to hear her stuff until it's done, so I think the reason we got to hear these early gems is that we've already heard the official releases. This leads me to believe that there's still a chance that other demos may still be reworked & put out on a brand new album. I'd prefer it that way. THEN after her new album comes out, she can go ahead & put the demos out on some remasters! :p

I just think that if she puts the demos on the remasters first, there'll be no hope of new versions of those demos ending up on a new album - it'd be like she's giving up on them or something. JMO.

Ahh Jason...see...you can think outside of the box  Without sitting here and speculating who it's about (*ahem ahem* Lindsey ;) ), I think it truly is a beautiful song that seems to be coming from her heart (pardon the pun) and apparently means a lot to her. So, with that having been said, regardless of whether or not she chose to put the metaphor into the song backwards or if it was a mistake, she didn't just sit down and write just to write...the Stevie we know writes for a reason--perhaps to her it did make sense (and what you're saying certainly makes sense) and I think it can mean something to others who were perhaps in a similar situation that she found herself in.

I think Stevie's next album should be a mystical, magickal album, filled with faerie-dust, unicorns & ghostly stars & bells. I would call it "Shadow Light Chiffon."

Speaking of what theme she should do next for the solo CD. What are your thoughts?

Stevies next CD is going to be nothing but INCREDIBLE  ....she has raised the bar w/ TISL and esp since this may be close to her last solo disc!!!
So my votes for unreleased demo considerations for her next disc are:

*Forest Of The Black Roses!!!!!.... and she walks into.......Beautiful Superb...its a crime its never been developed into a masterpiece like POTU!

*She Loves Him Still (the spoken word part..slays me everytime)
*All The Beautiful Worlds (could be great w/ a modern arrangement.)
*Joan Of Arc (another unreleased WTFWTT(what the **** were they thinking,,,not finishing this...could've been up there w/ Doing the best that I can.
*Chanel Chanel
*City Of Hope
*Christian (Spinning Wheels)
*The Dealer w/Tom Petty ( a great idea)
AND.......
*SPACE NEEDLE!! ;)

as much as I like "My Heart"...Im suprised so many of you are wanting a new version.. since we now have a 99% complete version ..Yeah its good, and it should have replaced "That Made Me Stronger"-ultimatley on TISL, but I personally could live without it on a new solo disc!..replace it w/ something far superior from the vault or a new masterpiece!

thats my 2 cents!! :blob2:

Without You with Special guest appearance by Lindsey Buckingham. I am really curious to see how this song sounds with their more mature voices. I think it would be fantastic and obviously have a grittier sound then the demo. Sadly though, I think Stevie has forgotten about a lot of these songs that we love. I hope she hasn't forgotten about this one- it needs to see the light of day!

China Doll is maybe my favorite demo, but I think her current voice is too harsh for it. Unless she sang in her "It's Only Love"/"Goodbye Baby" voice (I don't know why she doesn't sing softly more often -- she sounds so good).

Other than that:

The Dealer
If You Were My Love (as a ballad, not a rocker a la the Mirage sessions)
Sanctuary
All the King's Horses
Belle Fleur (LOVE this song)
Chanel Chanel (but please give it another name!)
Space Needle (with some editing)

Darling, it's the PITS, IMO. She sounds awful, the lyrics are good in spots but nothing truly memorable, and it sounds like stock music from an early nineties Streisand record. I hated it. I hated that "Dirrrty" song and "Can't Hold Us Down." Mostly, I hate her trying to be black and attempting to write music. Both were such mistakes. I like a couple of songs on that album but not enough to still be a fan. "Beautiful" and "Fighter." Those were pretty much the only ones I could stand. It was kind of a shame because I loved almost everything she put out up until that point.

Personally, I think her writing style is kick ass. Her first album isn't her at all. You liked someone who was produced and put into a pigeon-hold in order to be like everyone else at the time (Britney...etc). Stripped was who she really was. She was not trying to act black. She was trying to be herself instead of a pin-up girl who sang useless pop. At least the songs on Stripped had a meaning and a voice to them. I can't wait for Album #3.

The OSTOM is mine. The songs are good by themselves, but awful together. It's such a downer. WH, too. Not much of a downer....just back to back....it doesn't do it for me. That's why I make mixed CDs and put a SA song beside a WH song or something....it breaks it up and makes it more fresh.

Really, the only part I don't like, is "Docklands." And, as it is, I like most of that song, just not the verses.

Sheesh...I don't log onto The Ledge until about 6, and look what happens...

*Avril Lavigne is an aloof, distant performer. I used to think she had a strong, clear voice; now it sounds to me like that voice has been damaged by cigarette use or something. I don't think she's all that interesting.

*Some of Destiny's Child's songs are :woohoo:danceable:woohoo: but most of the time they're really boring.

*Christina Aguilera has a good voice. I LOVE "Lady Marmalade"(sp?) and "Beautiful" but don't know about her slutty album or whatever.

*I'm addicted to Stevie. Enough said.

Um...Now, off to the "what stevie songs don't you like?" thread, I guess.

That would make her new cd worth buying alone. Although I'd hope that she would put it on a new fm cd instead.

Demos I'd like to see surface:

All the Beautiful Worlds
Mistaken Love
Sanctuary
My Heart
Love and War (Mix Down) - Its just a fun song and I think if it was updated could be a great song.
She Still Loves Him
Space Needle- could be shortened musically or given a little more variation. I'd love it to be an Illume type sound when she finishes it.
