Just wanted to let everyone know that Stevie's 12/10/83 appearance on 'Saturday Night Live' is the "classic SNL" episode NBC is playing tonight in their Late-Night lineup.
(Every Saturday night, NBC offers a full-length classic episode of SNL for its affiliates to air.)
In the Pittsburgh area, it's playing on WPXI-11 at 3:30am.
Stevie, of course, performs "Stand Back" and "Nightbird." :D

"Nightbird" live gives me the shivers...And, well, really what words can describe the "Stand Back Experience?"

Would one of you PC-technical wizards please mp3 these songs? Pretty please???
I know there are already mp3s out there, but hey -- there can always be a better copy, right? ;) Especially now with digital broadcasts, etc...
it's on right now....and it's sooooo late but this gave me somethin to stay up for. what is it about songs/shows/movies that air on a national network. Same thing about music. You've got "sara" or "the chain" and all its various "demo"/live incarnations......but when it's on the radio you tune it in and it sounds better than ever and everything stops.
flip wilson is blabbing about something....stevie just sang "stand back" and is about to sing "nightbird"....oh, wait, commercial....some non-ssential information: when this was on originally i had nothing but one of those "school" tape recorders and held it up to the speaker.
what's funny is seeing "elaine" ,from Seinfeld, on this show. you forget she's she's here. i mean, c'mon, it's only 12-10-83 and i'm 13. but it's cool. this one dude looks like costanza.

Thanks for the info, JS! I just watched Stand Back and it was so great to see it again. I remember watching it like 20 years ago. Her dancing was fab and the boots! Sigh. The girls looked great, too. Those were the days! I can't wait to see Nightbird.

Hee. I saw that. I fell asleep on the couch last night watching SNL and woke up later to hear Nightbird. My mom came in and was all "Kate! Stevie's on!" And I just blinked and tried to stay awake to watch it. But, I fell right back asleep. -_-

I watched it too. I have it on some tape somewhere.. but it was nice to see again. Watching this and thinking of Stevie now... it's like two completely different women from then to now.

After all these years (6 to be exact) this is the first time I've seen it on TV and now have it on tape! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! :blob2:
Man, I loved Stevie's hair ... She was sooo tiny... Her eyes were so twinklie and shiney... vocals were fabulous. The Stand Back dancing guy was a bit much... reminds me of the show Solid Gold. How about Stevie's Stand Back cape with the Flashdance off the shoulder touch?! heehee.
Ah, I'm sooo happy I have this on tape now. All I need is another rerun of South Park cuz my tape is aimed and ready! :p

Absolutely love how Stevie & Lori sing into the mic together on Nightbird, the way Stevie looks at her, so up close.....it is so cute! :xoxo:

I know, and did you see Lori's throat waddling vibrato? I'll never be able to figure out how some vocalists do that. Everyone has their own way of adding vibrato to their voice. I try and it's not easy.

PS: I was thinkin.... let's hope they both used Binaca before that little duet. :D

I always wonder about that! Singing that close to someone, I would be paranoid about the breath freshness factor.

I just watched it for the first time and I was appalled by how bad the performances were. I was really disapointed. Oh wel you can't please everybody.

I think the performance was on par for 1983. Funny how a lot of things that old look to be sub-quality. About the only thing I still like that came out of the 80s is synthesizers, oh and the Bella Donna album... hehe ;)

I liked them both a lot, especially Nightbird. I can't understand why she hasn't included the song in any tour setlist.
