Just wanted to give everyone the heads-up (thanks to musicTAP (http://www.musictap.net/index.html)), that Louise Goffin's 1981 self-titled album, which features her cover of Stevie's "If You Ever Did Believe" (with Stevie and Sharon providing backing vocals), is now available on a 2-on-1 CD with her 1979 album, 'Kid Blue.'

I don't even like this cover. I'd rather have Sandy Stewart's material released on CD.
Thanks for the info. Anybody know if she had a hit song?

Louise Goffin or Sandy Stewart?
I don't think either of them have had one.
As much as I adore her mother, Louise's voice is a little annoying. Granted, the only thing I've heard her sing is "If You Ever Did Believe." It's such a great song, though. I think just about anyone could sing it, and I'd listen.

Louise is definitely on the shrill side. But, I think her voice has mellowed with age. I think both the girls are hit free.

She shares vocals with her mother on the theme to the Gilmore Girls. Her voice sounds better now, a little anyway.

Actually, I think Louise's version is much better than Stevie's 1998 version. Stevie sounds a bit dry on hers, whereas, Louise's version is totally Bella Donnaish. It's not hard to hear, I mean, it was the early 80's, Jimmy Iovine produced, and Stevie also sang on it as well as Sharon and Lori. It just has the kick I feel the 1998 version is lacking. As much as I love Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Iovine was Stevie's best producer in my opinion, and he knew what to do with her songs. Also, if you listen to Louise's version, the music kicks in before it does on Stevie's version. On Stevie's, the beginning is drawn out too long. Louise's version is definitely more upbeat. However, it's not like Louise had anything to do with it, as I said, it was all about the time, early 80's, Jimmy produced, and Stevie even sings on it so, there you have it.

No way, I prefer Stevie's Practical Magic version, by far. Louise sounds too "sweet."

Nooo, I like the beginning on Stevie's version. It makes it more dramatic. :)
Louise's version is definitely more upbeat.
It's not supposed to be upbeat. I think that's part of my problem with Louise's version. She sounds too young and chipper.

Exactly. The lyrics are about yearning for a love that has left you stranded. It's not suppose to be played at a hoe down. Louise's version makes me gag.

The problem I think most people have with Louise's version is, the fact that she was so young when she recorded it. She sounds a little like Debbie Gibson maybe? Being a singer myself, Louise's carries the tune rather well in my opinion. However, it's not so much Louise's vocals, its the music and production I find to be better. To each their own.

You got my vote about Sandy Stewart, Curtis. She's awesome. Maybe the Sandy fans should email Atlantic.

I do like the version Stevie did for Practical Magic. But I will also add that I like Louise's version~~it does have an 80' feel to it and Stevie & the girls can be heard in the backing vocals. I must also say that Louise's version stays true to Stevie's demo version~a country-ish feel.
I bought her album last year and I look forward to upgrading to the CD format.
