If you don't know the story behind this TV interview from Japan here it is - all the members are there John, Mick, Chris, Billy, Rick and Stevie. The Japanese hosts are prattling away in Japanese and I believe one of them will then translate in English so FM can understand. They will ask a question in Japanese and then translate in English (which takes forever, I might add, as each member just sits there uncomfortably) Then when Mick, John etc answer they will translate back in Japanese and laugh and whatnot.

Stevie is visibly not happy. She has this look on her face, like "WTF" and kind of like this annoyed smile as she is watching the hosts.

Ok so then they show the video for 'Big Love.' The hosts are speaking in Japanese but they are obviously making fun of the video - making faces and putting their hands around their necks like in a choking fashion etc. Stevie is soo pissed!! They say something and Stevie, rolls her eyes then says, "That's why we're not movie stars, that's right!" Really bitchy. Mick kind of like puts his heads in his hands like he is embarrased.

I wonder what the hosts said. I didn't hear them say anything in English so I wonder how they knew they were making fun of the video. Anyone else see this and remember what was going on?

I never even noticed this. I should watch my tape again. There are a few portions where the translation is not included-- ie the band answers a question that hasn't even been asked :) -- so maybe this is another part where they didn't bother to include what the hosts said that annoyed Stevie.

Is this the same interview where they ask the band questions, and they have to hold up a ping-pong-paddle-looking sign (or something you bid with at an auction) to answer? If so, I'm surprised those interviewers made it out of the studio alive. I remember several other moments in the interview where other Mac members were pissed, too.

The interview is from the Behind the Mask era probably 1990. Yes, I was trying to figure out what was going on with the ping pong paddles. Everyone looked totally confused. At that point, Stevie started laughing hysterically like she had totally lost it. I don't remember any other members getting pissed, I just noticed that they all seemed very uncomfortable and when Stevie got pissed Mick looked totally embarrassed.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she gets pissed because they are making fun of the Big Love video. It makes me wonder if they were making fun of Lindsey since he was the one that was in most of the video. Anyway, I wish I knew what they were saying. Let me know what you think when you watch it again (if you have time!)

It could just be selective memory -- I remember the "Big Love" question, and Stevie's reaction. So, after that, I probably just remember the whole thing as being antagonistic. Same thing with the Sara Rue comments earlier this year, and the Bill Murray comments on Letterman in '01... Once you've dissed Stevie, you're on my blacklist.

I also remember this interview as being where I learned that Stevie's favorite Jimi Hendrix song is called "Little Wing", realized the connection to "Straight Back", and running out and buying a couple of Hendrix CDs to look for other influences on Stevie.

The interview is from the Behind the Mask era probably 1990.Yeah, what's interesting is that the band went to Japan to do press in 1990, obviously, but I don't believe they actually played any shows. Bands usually tour Japan & Australia together, so Fleetwood probably were in Japan in early March, before they hit Australia, or mid April, after the Australian shows were done.

Anyone know of any Japan shows in '90?

Plus, I think all you guys read way too much into all these appearances & facial expressions & such. So-and-so is pissed, or this person's is mortified, or that person is horrified, or whatever . . . if the band were as volatile & on-the-edge emotionally as fans seem to think they are, they'd have all died of high blood pressure by now. Besides, take this show for example. It's a hell of a long flight to Japan from the U.S. Ever tried it? It totally wears you out. Combine that with the typical rigors of traveling & touring -- being flown & driven & bussed hither & yon & having to handle one interview after another -- & they're all probably so zonked that you'd have to spit in their faces to raise their ire. And even they they'd probably just look at you blankly.

It's no wonder they don't know what the heck is going on with all these Japanese people jabbering at them in a foreign tongue. I think if there's anything on any of their minds at that point, it's "Get me out of here & back to my hotel room."

Maybe they were talking about the fight between Lindsey and Stevie after Tango came out? The one that was in Mick's book around that time?

I think Mick's book came out in 1992. Behind the Mask was in 1990, right? But, I'm pretty sure it was about the Big Love video because of Stevie's response "that's why we're not movie stars, that's right!" MEOW! LOL! I think they were making fun of it. How sad. (Although it IS pretty cheesy!)

I agree 100%. Plus the long flight, no sleep etc. Nothing would be more irritating. I think that's why Stevie looked that way from the beginning...totally like she did not want to be there at all.

Yeah, if I was stevie i'd be irritated too.(I haven't seen it, but) "hi, we're going to interview you, then make fun of your video! And...you won't be able to understand what we're saying!"  I'm glad Stevie stood up for it! Go, girl! :)

Yes, he told Letterman that's what Stevie said to him. Then, Letterman asked if he liked or listened to her music, and Bill replied:

"Not really. But maybe the next time I'm drunk and stoned and rolling around on the floor, I'll put on some of her music."

The "tell-all" book was 1990 -- shortly after BTM came out. Mick also published a coffee-table-type book to coincide with the release of the box set in 1992. :)

Awww. He was just being funny! But I can see why this would up set you. I think BM is histerical, I don't think he meant any harm by that comment. He certainly has been drunk, stoned, and rolling around many times!

If you watch most interviews from 1989 to SA , Stevie either seems angry or totally out of it.

She was on heavy medication ( I know someone personally who took klonopin for 3 months because the DR gave it to her! This was over the summer and she was totally horrid, most of the time she couldn't even look at you because she was so zonked) Stevie took those pills for years...

I watched this interview once years ago. I have to find it somehow and see it again.

can anyone video capture scenes?
