View Full Version : Suddenly in love with this pic

When I first got into Stevie, I really only liked the pictures of her from the nineties through the present. I thought she was too skinny and/or looked high or tired during the seventies. I usually didn't care for the eighties hair, either. But I've changed my mind since I first got into Stevie, obviously. I'm just in love with this picture from the Nicksfix (http://www.nicksfix.com/nicksfix132.jpg). She does kind of have that tired look, but more importantly, she just looks very real to me. She has that girl-next-door look about her. (Please forgive the cliche). But she really looks like someone I would run into in my neighborhood, and she looks like she would be very kind as well. I don't know how a picture can say all of that, but this one does to me. Any other fans of this pic?

That's a good one, you're right. She looks cute and regular. And i like 80's feathered hair, but i don't like 80's big sprayed hair, so, it works for me.

That one pic somebody just posted was from "if anyone falls" video...no? -- I always thought the b/w (white dress) moments in that video were so much more beautiful that the color (black RAL back cover dress). Her hair in the white dress was just perfect. I always hated that most of the video was in the black dress with the frizzed hair. there are so many photos from the white dress / at the mic / carousel portion of the video -- that sadly ended up on the cutting room floor. Would love to see an alternate all white dress IAF video.
Did any of this make ANY sence?

Well, I think it was during this Wild Heart era that she first started to put on weight. I thought she looked good but she seems to have crazy standards of thinness. I am just guessing that this may have been the reason, but maybe it wasn't.

Huzzah!! And, actually, in real life i don't make fun of people who are fat, ever, so, to make fun of Stevie for poofing up at all, is like, beyond the normal realm of where my mind would go...what's the point? I mean, it's not like it's a character flaw.

"Fat" seems to be such a derogatory word, and maybe I've always been extra-sensitive to it because I have family members who've struggled their entire lives with weight problems.
Stevie was definitely overweight for a while there, no doubt about it. But I never thought she looked horrible. There was just "more of her to love," as they say.
Plus, gaining weight is a normal fact of life for most people... whether it's due to poor eating habits, lack of exercise, side effects from medication, or just good ol' genetics.
I'd venture to say that Christine is quite simply naturally slim, and doesn't have to work at it too much. Stevie, on the other hand, seems to have to work pretty hard to maintain a respectable weight, and most likely will never be as thin as she used to be.

Probably, but i remember reading that Christine was a chubby child and teen, and then she got mono, and lost the weight. Also, there's the story of how she saw someone (peter green? I dunno) playing, and she vowed to get skinny so she could go out with him :) And then she did. She was very young at the time, i think, in her teens...looks like she's never had a problem with it since then, though, doesn't it? I've seen pics of her with a little weight on her, but not much, then, it was gone...

That's a good point... I had kind of forgotten about the "chubby childhood" stuff. And, yes, she looked a little plumper around 'Mirage'... her face was certainly fuller then. But she slimmed down again by the time of 'Christine McVie' and 'Tango In The Night,' and, really, ever since.
Christine's always seemed to be on a more even keel, emotionally, than Stevie though, and seems to have suffered little of the same insecurities and anxieties that have often plagued Stevie... so perhaps that has made the difference. When you feel better about yourself... or just don't give a damn what other people think of you... you're far less prone to suffer from depression, etc.

Obviously, that's an opinion. but, luckily, i don't care what it was! My guess would be that it was a combination of a lot of factors... including the ones you mentioned. But I wouldn't be surprised if Stevie engaged in her share of depression-induced eating at certain points in her life.

I love Stevie.
But if you watch her doing the Street Angel circuit....she has a hard time moving and she is wearing so many layers to cover herself.
If she was 5'6, she would not be fat, but at 5'1 and to be 175...that may not be fat but that is overweight.
It wasn't healthy...I mean in the late 70's I'm sure she was 90 pounds...thats a lot of weight to gain!
I am a depressed eater.
My best friend...who is 5'10 and 105 pounds...can't even look at food when she is upset...we are all different. Food is a comfort and after Stevie went through what she did...no wonder she turned to food. I don't blame her for getting BIG but I am glad she lost the weight.
Now she is perfect. I hate when people call her fat NOW. That pisses me off.

I don't know that she "turned to food". Most people bloat up after they stop doing coke, quite a bit in some cases. Also, Stevie was getting older, passed the age, really, where a lot of women gain wait naturally unless they modify their previous eating/excercise habits. It's the way of the body getting older. Plus, of course, the Klonopin made her lethargic, during the time she was taking it. :wavey:

Yeah, she probably wouldn't like it. The high res of it looks good, I took it at AHI in '98. It was at the after party while she was waiting for this wind bag to stop prattling on and present Stevie her "award" for the money she raises for AHI. I don't think Stevie liked all that nonsense, she seemed to want to get that over with so she could get to the fans.

Stevie has said that when she went to Betty Ford they stuffed her. She said the portions were huge and frequent. When you stop doing a drug sometimes a replacement ensues, and in Stevie's case this seems to have been food. She's also said that she would crave food with rich sauces and have them as midnight snacks! So I think it is a combination of trying to fill the void after cocaine and, as you said, a bit of carelessness.

Mmmm, I have an easier time passing up the chips than the burgers. Even fries. But every so often I MUST HAVE a burger. Joe's American Bar and Grill down the street has awesome burgers. Oh yeah, and Applebees has a cowboy burger that is just scrumptious. It has onion rings, barbeque sauce and cheddar and jack cheeses. I bet your mouth is watering, huh? Sorry! :D

About Stevie and the weight factor, what has always surprised me is that she thought not to perform anymore because of it. Were the fans' reactions to her look during Street Angel tour so tough to cope with? Anyway I'm glad she gained confidence in herself again; in Italy our most famous and respected singer, Mina (just to know who I'm talking about:First sample (http://www.minamazzini.com/discografia/audio_brani/767.mov), Sample n.2 (http://www.minamazzini.com/discografia/audio_brani/925.mp3) ), retired from scenes almost thirty years ago, (even if during these years she kept recording amazing albums) mostly to get out from the public eye and the rumours about her appearance, private life, etc. For her fans (I'm one of them), it's quite frustrating, but we respect her decision, secretly hoping she would change her mind sooner or later. :D

Hmm, i'm guessing it's also because the critics were a bit nasty when she toured with the weight, and it hurt her feelings. This is mainly my opinion from reading reviews and watching "Stevie Nicks - Behind the Music"

That's a lot of weight for a tiny person.I suspect that her outfit in that pic you just posted from January of '95 made her look bigger than she actually was. I don't know what to say when I look at it (and others like it) 'cause I've had crushes on women who were just as big, and I certainly wasn't sitting around thinking I wished they'd lose weight. But at the same time, I know that if I allowed myself to get as big as they were, I would be trying very hard to lose that weight. I have different standards for myself. I'm much, much harder on myself than others.

Yeah, the '95 pic isn't so good. It's just a bad shot of her when normally she's very photogenic. The other one you posted of her in yellow is gorgeous! I have to admit, I like her crimped hair in some photos. :o

I love the crimped hair! I hate to see photos of when she was at her worst, but you have to see them. In a way, the photos show her accomplishments. Am I making sense?

I like the crimped hair, too. And even in the "bad" pic, i think she looks pretty. :D

I like the first photo too, and I don't see such a big weight problem  , but as Hillary said, it all depends on personal standards, I guess. Judging from the audio boots from Street Angel Tour I've heard, she certainly hid it well the distress she was in during that period, IMO.

Totally, yes. It shows how her career has been a long, hard (albeit rockstar pampered) road but totally rewarding. She's a living legend and her appearance should and does reflect that. She's looking fabulous these days imo.
