I'm listening to the downloads right now. First of all, the speed needs to be corrected. I'm not criticizing the host of the downloads or anything, but I was expecting to hear this vocal atrocity and i couldn't help but scratch my head and wonder what the criticism is with this actual performance. Any decent cd audio program should have a pitch correction feature.
I've had the Red Rocks tape since '87 when it came out and i can pretty much tell where the original vocal was left intact and where the overdubs are after listening to the audience recording. However, i wouldn't venture to say that virtually all of the original vocals were overdubbed. I'd say maybe 1/2 of the vocals were overdubbed.
I think the slower speed of the tape isn't doing the audience recording much justice. I'm gonna correct the speed and then i can have a better idea.
Dissention! Since you did the remastering stuff, maybe you can answer their questions?

I didn't, my friend did. ;) And I told Gaius that he died last year.
The fixed-up version just reduces the audience noise a LOT and makes her vocals louder. It's still an atrocious performance (and this is coming form someone who loves the RAL shows) and she sounds like a man who just ate a box of tacks. And it is NOTHING like the video, it's practically a different concert.

Hoo, boy. 99.9% of the vocals are overdubs. She sounds awful in the actual bootleg, but then magically sounds like a chipmunk on the video. Of the few things that were left in and not overdubbed, most of it is her wild screeching, like at the end of Edge and Stand Back. During Edge (and many other songs), she actually forgets the lyrics in the beginning and pauses for quite awhile, while the audience in the bootleg laughs at her and bitches over the ridiculous length of the rhythm solos.

You have GOT to be kidding. If that's for real, it would be worth hearing for novelty's sake.

So then what's the "Previously Unreleased After Concert Vocal from Red Rocks"?? Is it just all overdubs or what?
There should be only "No Spoken Word" & "I Need to Know." That stuff surfaced not too long ago. Maybe more will show up some day.

I know it's only those two songs but I want to know what they are exactly. Because it's not the same performance as the uncut version.
I think we're all still kind of speculating about that.
Stevie mentioned in the liner notes to 'Timespace,' that Mick stayed after the show to be with her as she filmed close-ups in the rain. I always assumed she sang along to a playback of the just-finished performance, but now I wonder if perhaps some of the band stayed behind too, and actually played as she sang.
I've never heard the uncut Red Rocks performance, but I've noticed people saying it's atrocious. She sounds pretty damn good on the post-concert re-takes of "I Need To Know" and "No Spoken Word" though, so go figure.

This is a goofy question... I've sometimes seen the date of the 1986 Red Rocks performance listed as June 25th, and sometimes as August 20th.
Which is correct? Or did she perform at Red Rocks twice that year?

Stevie performed 3 x at Red Rocks that year. The two shows in June sold out and those were my first two Stevie concerts (I was 15). At the second show this heavy-metallish friend of mine went just to go-not because he was whack for the Mac like me. Anyways we had something like 15th row seats but managed to sneak right down to the front. At the end when the crowd goes up to the stage we got squished against the metal rail around the edge of the stage. I looked over my shoulder and saw all of Red Rocks pushing towards the front or so it felt. I was very hot and it was hard to breathe. We sort got pushed over to the right side, basically in front of the speakers. Stevie was flailing about onstage, the guitarist was going crazy on some solos and I remember thinking: this is rock n roll, this is what all the old hippies I knew were talking about when they talked about Led Zeppelin or Jefferson Airplane. By the time we left I couldn't hear a thing and my ears were ringing for a week. I seriously thought I might go deaf from being smashed up against those speakers for so long. Anyways my buddy raved to everyone about what a "kick ass" show it was, and I was happy to have made a convert (or at least part one of my convert plan, "learn to love Stevie").
When she came back in August to film the video they were afraid it wouldn't sell out since she had just been there for two sold out shows so they sold tickets for a very reduced price (about $10 I think). Anyways, I remmeber hearing that the show sold out in about three hours. I actually bought my tickets off of a caller to a radio show because I couldn't get to a ticket place in time...and we didn't have the internet back in the olden days!

And oh yeah-I would die to get my hands on a bootleg video of one of those first two shows-they were so much wilder than the filmed one. Or so I remember, but then again, maybe I was high.

I haven't heard it, but, Ricoh, is there any chance that this "unedited Red Rocks' bootleg is actually one of the other shows, and not the one filmed for the video release?

Hey John(ny)boy-
I suppose it could be. I kept thinking it sounded so weird but then I just discovered Windows Media Player has a "play speed adjuster" (or at least the newest version does) so I bumped it up one and then two marks. One spot was still slow, but the second jump up in speed I think is a tiny bit too fast, however at the second bump it really does start to sound like the filmed show. Also when I looked at the complete setllist wherever these are available for download now (stevie nicks-info. I think), it was the same as the filmed show which was different than the two I saw in June. In June they had dropped I Cant Wait from the setlist-I didn't even know she was doing it live till the filmed show. And why haven't you heard these Mr. Stew-I think they're available for download right now? Yes, I just investigated and they are. And what a f*cking cute pic of Stevie next to them. I love love lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve her clothes from that ummmm timespace  .

I never bothered to seek it out through trades, etc., because there always seemed to be some other show or something that I was more interested in. And I tend to avoid downloading full-length concerts because it takes FOREVER on dial-up. It's easier to download one-off songs here and there, or short sets (like Stevie's KFOG performance) that won't take hours and hours to get.

No, it's the filmed show. :) There's trader out there (her name escapes me) and she has the master DAT for it because she taped it. I traded for it awhile back, but I lost it before I could listen to it and never bothered to seek out another one.

No worries, darling. :woohoo: :wavey:
ok...for any of you that are still downloading this...
just heard "stand back" and just about 98% of it was overdubbed. The only vocals from this performance that they kept was the ending. I recognized the "cryyyyy ay ay ay" and "owww!!! well you could be standin in....well you could be standin in iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit."
the thing that cracks me up in "leather and lace" is the very last "WELLLLLLLLOWWWWWWAAHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIII WANT YOU TO TAKE FROM ME...my lace."

That's when they still let people bring milk jugs full of "juice" into Red Rocks to keep themsleves hydrated during the shows.
