So what are the songs that just make you super duper happy?

Not just songs that are happy - but songs that, when they randomly (or not so randomly) come on the radio you just feel a burst of happiness and an overwhelming urge to either dance or just jump around a lot....:D

The ones that immediatly come to mind --

Ray of Light - Madonna
This Kiss - Faith Hill
Walking on Sunshine- Katrina and the Waves (I think that's the name of the group... )

Give a Little Bit -- the Goo Goo Dolls cover is awesome
Breakaway -- Kelly Clarkson
I Believe -- Fantasia Barrino (this sounds so cool when it comes on in the car)
Everybody Have Fun Tonight -- Wang Chung
Jump -- Van Halen
Don't Stop -- can't think of who does this one...
Where You Are -- Marc Broussard

Heavy Metal Drummer- Wilco
The Man Who Murdered Love- XTC
It's All Right- Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions
Clear Spot- Pernice Brothers
Know Your Onion!- The Shins

And the one that's made me happiest lately, and has made me laugh my ass off everytime I hear it, is Tenacious D's Christmas song from last year- "Things I Want." It's the only thing that's getting me into the Christmas spirit. Call me immature for digging the D, but. Hey.

Ho Ho Ho
So many christmas letters,
So many wishes,
Lucy wants a squeezie doll,
Jimmy wants a moon rocket,
Oh, this list is rather long,

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!

Hey now Santa I'm writing to you,
Cos there's alot of cool **** I want
I know I've been naughty but cut me some slack,
Cos there's alot of cool **** I want,
So here's my list-a,
So check it out twice-a,
I waaaaaaant,
A solid gold Harley with machine guns on the front,
I waaaaaaant,
A Motley Crew lunchbox filled with sticky buns,

I want a see through jumpsuit that fits me tight,
I want all of the Beatles copyrights,
I want to chop Florida off the map,
I want Pamela Andersons speedo top,

So there you go Santa theres my christmas list,
Thats all the cool **** I want,
But wait a minute Santa theres some things I missed,
There's still alot of cool **** I want,
So here's my list-a,
So check it out twice-a,
I waaaaaaant,
A time machine and a BB gun,
I waaaaaaant,
A statue of Moby on the surface of the sun,
I waaaaaaant,
To party naked on a schoolbus full of nuns,
I waaaaaaant,
A bumper pool table and a robot pelican,

There you go Santa I'm sure you'll agree,
That there's some really cool **** I want,
I know I've been naughty but I guarantee,
That I deserve every single one,

So here's my list-a,
So check it out twice-a,
I know I've been naughty but life aint nice-a,
PS I still-a need some more ****-a,

I waaaaaaant,
A diamond hyena shooting fire from his butt,
I waaaaaaant,
A cannibal chef to cook me sweet and sour buns,
I waaaaaaant,
A magical sleigh thats pulled by flying skunks,
I waaaaaaant,
All the cool **** I want!

Pixies: "Debaser"
Wire: "Mannequin"
Sly And The Family Stone: "Stand!" (although some others qualify as well)
The Beach Boys: most of the '60s uptempo material, but also the likes of "Honkin' Down The Highway"
New Order: "Temptation" (usually live)
New Order: "Age Of Consent"
Abba: "Mamma Mia"
The Move: "Fire Brigade"
The Kinks: "Plastic Man"

etc, etc. Hmm, I'm not particularly happy now. Maybe I should put one of these on. ;)

LOL - I know - I couldn't get past his FAB hair for the first three viewings of the video. I also LOVE The Sun Always Shines on T.V.

But - Take on Me

Talking away
I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
today's another day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for you love O.K.

Take on me
Take me on
I'll be gone
in a day or two

So needless to say I'm odds and ends
But that's me, stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is O.K.
Say after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry.

Take on me
Take me on
I'll be gone
in a day or two.

The things that you say
Is it live or just to play
My worries away
You're all the things I've got to remember
You shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway

Take on me
Take me on
I'll be gone
in a day or two

Oh, me too. This is a song that is always played on my yearly horseback riding/camping extravaganza. Include in the scene if you will, a campfire, my close friends, me in my cowboy get-up, a measured amount of Patron Silver, and much hooting and hollering. A good time had by all, I must say ! Much to the chagrin of stodgy people camped anywhere with 100 yards.

F that movie. I have never seen it. I found it suspect to make a biographical movie when all the key players were still alive. Plus I cannot withstand seeing violence against women, even if it is only a movie.

As for happy songs, Days Go By by Keith Urban is my good mood song lately. I love the lyrics and I really want to live out this philosophy.

Days Go By

Changin' lanes and talkin' on the phone
Drivin' way too fast
The interstate's jammed with gunners like me
Afraid of comin' in last
But somewhere in the race we run
We're comin' undone

Days go by
I can feel them flyin'
Like a hand out the window in the wind
Cars go by
Yeah, it's all we've been given
So we better start livin' right now
'Cause days go by

I was on the roof just the other night
And watched the world flash by
Headlights, taillights and runnin' through the river of neon signs
But somewhere in the rush I felt
We're losin' ourselves

(Repeat Chorus)

We think about tomorrow, then it slips away
We talk about forever but we've only got today

Days go by
I can feel them flyin'
Like a hand out the window as the cars go by
Yeah, it's all we've been given
So we'd better start livin'
We'd better start livin'
We'd better start livin' right now

(Repeat Chorus)

'Cause days go by
So take them by the hand
And in your mind
Take them by the hand
And live your life
Take them by your hand
Don't let your life fly by
Come on
Come on now
Don't you know the days go by

I think I'll add Just Like Jesse James to my list. That song always puts a smile on my face.

I love "Jesse James," but when I try to sing along with that sucker, I stumble over the lyrics everytime.

I never screw up the "come on, baby, show me what that loaded gun is for" line though. :o

That has got to be, hands down, the happiest and most uplifting song ever recorded. And her voice on it is absolutely awe-inspiring.

Without meaning to be corny, it's definitely one of Cyndi's shining moments. All the planets of the universe alligned when she recorded that one. :)

I haven't seen the movie, but I have heard the song. It's great (like the whole album), even if I don't generally go for Jesus music.

I can't stand Jesus music, but that song is haunting. The bridge is shockingly good.

Brown Eyed Girl

OMG - this is SO horrible of me - but this guy in college was a total snit - well, he had this horrible illness that caused him to lose his hair. So . . . we would always sing in his presence "Hey where did your hair go" when the song would start   I will burn in hell for that one

ALso, Sister Honey is such a jovial song!!!!!! I love it and readily call it fluff

I Touch Myself also makes me happy. :D

My drunk-at-the-time friend wanted to sing karaoke one night for the first time, and had me go up to pick a song for her. So, naturally, I got her all lined up to sing I Touch Myself. It was hilarious!

The Cure - Friday I'm in Love

I go for 'Just Like Heaven' with the Cure, instead.

Johnny Stew- I saw you mentioned Nancy Sinatra. Have you heard her new album? It's PHENOMENAL. So excellent. A couple of the songs are completely classic, like "Burnin' Down the Spark." I recommend it.
