I love working with special needs kids, no doubt, and everyone in my famliy wants me to have a "normal" career, but I can't see myself doing that for a lifetime. I've had enough of school, I don't want to go back and teach it... I'm going to see if I can get in a music class that doesn't require an audition next semester and work with somebody who's in piano to get to the point where I'd make it past an audition. Even if I just end up with a piano minor, I need to get back into music classes.

Alright, sheesh, ya found me :laugh: but I'd rather be anywhere but here... it's a good school, the people are entirely too friendly, and there is absolutely nothing to do and nowhere to go. The first inkling of a music scene that I've found in this town is a praise band on campus. What more could a musician ask for... :rolleyes:

That's it!! We have a mathematical learning disability. Finally, I can tell my dad that, because when I was a kid, I cried because I couldn't figure out my math homework. LOL We would sit in the kitchen for hours and he'd try to explain things to me, get frustrated at me, and I'd start ballin'.

there was a study recently (About a couple years ago actually) that showed that people with difficulties with Mathematics tend to be great readers, And those with great Math abilities tend to be be slow readers.

Must be true...Deb, who is not mathematically inclined, can read an Anne Rice book completely in a day (Two days at most) and it takes me (A "4.0" GPA math student) about 5-7 days to read the same book.

there was a study recently (About a couple years ago actually) that showed that people with difficulties with Mathematics tend to be great readers, And those with great Math abilities tend to be be slow readers.

That's me! Except, i'm not terrible at math...i'm really good at word problems! My science brain is the worst, It's hard for me to think in symbols and pictures, especially, without words...my average standardized test score would be like..."98th percentile reading, 83'd math..." :distress:

By the way, the line, "Miss Congeality is something to which the women in my family have never aspired to anyway" is one of my entire family's favorite lines! We quote it often. I loved DW. One of the greats of TV.

And the whole math/science and reading thing? I'm horrible at math. Right now I'm running an $800 surplus in my checking account (it's been there for months--the bank insists that I have more money than I think I do) and I've never been able to figure out where it came from. I was so bad at science that when I was in college, I attended Physical Science classes 5 times a week--going to both the M-W-F class and the T-Th class of the same course (even though I wasn't enrolled in the second class), just so I could hopefully manage to figure out what the hell the instructor was talking about and pass the course. I got out of there with a C, but only because the professor knew how I hard I tried to "get it".

Meanwhile, I'm an avid reader and ended up being a writer/researcher.
So there may be something to that theory about reading and the lack of math/science ability, it's true in my case anyway!

Man, does that bring back bad memories! Except I was at the dining room table! :laugh:

Both of my parents (as well as my brother) are extremely good at math, but not me. I struggled like nobody's business. I excelled in all the language arts courses, but did miserably in math.

Must be true...Deb, who is not mathematically inclined, can read an Anne Rice book completely in a day (Two days at most) and it takes me (A "4.0" GPA math student) about 5-7 days to read the same book.

Hay Johnny Stew I probably lived close to you a few years ago. I lived at the intersection of 5 points. Right where Broad Run Road connected with 4 others. “I loved Pennsylvania.” Everyone was so friendly and I’ve never been to more parties and weddings in my life. Everyone was trying to get me to marry they’re daughters for some reason. The polish and Italian weddings were a PARTAY!

Hey there... you definitely lived not too far from me. What a small world!
This really is a great area to live. At least in my opinion.

And I know exactly what you mean about everyone wanting to fix you up with their daughters. My neighbor across the street wants to fix me up with one of her granddaughters (who are around my age) in the worst way.

Funny thing is though, I think the oldest is on to me. When she used to visit her grandmother when we were all kids, we'd all play together (we had about 11 kids on our block, all roughly around the same age).
Anyway, the last time her grandmother managed to have her and I in the same room together alone... *lol*... she said to me, "do you still love Wonder Woman as much as you did when we were kids?," and then smiled knowingly when I said "yes." :laugh:

Same here---I got out of a bad relationship that really left me gun shy about realtionships. At the exact same time, I left the profession I'd been in for 10 years and went into an entirely new field. The first two years I spent establishing myself, and then I was hired by another company, and now I work very, very long hours. To top it all off, I had a health crisis and was really focused on work and getting better for at least two of those four years. I'm doing better phsyically now and I'm happy and successful in my career--and to be honest, I just don't know where I'd find the time to actually have a personal life, given my work demands.

What exactly were you doing? I don't expect it to be too outrageous considering they encouraged violence so as to project an image of crazy violent youths. I was simple standing peacefully with the mass of protesters when the Police stormed towards us, one solidly built cop deciding that the best way to deal with me, a girl standing on the pavement with a sign, was to punch me in the face. So I'm guessing the aim was to get me and others around so angry that we'd attack them. Yes I'm about to attack a mass of big men each armed with baton and gun. I was allowed to scream a load of "f*ck you!" right up face to bloodied face with a cop though. Quite liberating to scream that at a cop and then spit (some blood) in his face. They never seemed to encourage the huge amount of middle aged and older protesters that were at the rallies. They didn't want to actually have to admit that even old people and middle aged well-to-do citizens were at these protests. What were your crimes?

"Disorderly conduct" the first time and "inciting violence" the second time. :laugh:

The first time was pretty much just a general sweep for everyone that was protesting at the Westover Air Force Base in MA. We had another protest there a week later and laid in the road; how I was "inciting violence" is a mystery to me. I did call the cop who arrested me a "c*nt," though, and he called me a piece of ****.

It looks like a few of you are upset about the election and the government in general. The president is just the fall guy. There are far more powerful people running this country and the world. People not necessarily in a government position but influential in ways that would probably shock a few.

Being the analyst I am a few years ago I got into monitoring government communications. Before the digital encryption began I had modified equipment which allowed me to listen locally and worldwide. Equipment that’s easily available today online. The digital encryption has been hacked but the equipment is expensive.

Anyway, when cell phones came to be, tracking a conversation was very easy. People didn’t realize they could be monitored and spoke freely. It was as easy as walking up to the outside of the right federal location with a frequency counter. It told you the frequency of every radio or cell phone transmitting within 1000 feet. When you heard the right voice the handheld modified scanner would track the entire conversation. The conversations were so sickening I gave up listening after a few months.

I understand our governments need for secrecy with information but these conversations scared the **** out of me. Most of the world’s government could care less about you or your rights. Were dispensable tools used for revenue. Revenue used to fuel they’re filthy cold hearted lives. You will never stop these people. It’s too big.

If you want to listen to the truth it’s gonna cost you today. With the right equipment you can listen to anything short of a whisper in the ear. I listened to a conversation one night that made me throw up. That is no lie and the reason I gave it up. I’ve never told anyone the content of these conversations and never will. If we the people ever rose to topple the government I can guarantee you you’ll never live to see the freedom your fighting for. If you only knew the tools they use to brainwash and control you. It’s right in front of your face but invisible.

Don’t let it get you down. Live and let live. The truth is revealed in the end. :thumbsup:

This is so cute. It reminded me, onetime when i was visiting my parents, this dog show came on. They were going through different breeds, then the commentator would say something. Anyway, my mom was at the computer, but she'd hear the breed of dog, and say something about it..."they're very loyal to their owner, but can be bad with other dogs" etc, something like that. And then, right after, the commentator would say almost the exact same thing about the dog that my mom had just said! :shocked: :laugh:
It was hilarious, it happened like, 5 times in a row. :D
Anyway, bet you could do that too :D That would be great if you owned no kill shelter... :xoxo:

Now, this might seem a rather odd thing to post but I'm going to anyway....

Reading through the descriptions of the ladies of the ledge it occurred to me that there is a percentage of reasonably small in height yet large in shoe size women. Is the a normal thing in the States? I know your shoe size is equal to one size higher than the UK but still it's interesting...

Seriously, I heard an explanation once that said that children growing up in the US wear sneakers/athletic shoes so much (daily) and that allows our feet to "spread" and "grow" more than if we were wearing hard-soled shoes. Don't know if that theory is true, but it could explain a lot. My Mom wears a size 6 shoe and she's 5'2--an inch shorter than I am (and I wear an 8 or an 8 1/2). She grew up wearing "real" shoes--I grew up wearing sneakers or going barefooted (in the house at least).

Michelle Kwan is great, I like Evgeni Plushenko (even when he is too perfect), but my favorite category is dance, so I follow more closely that competition. Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov are very good, also because they're trained by Alexander Zhulin who's been an amazing skater in couple with her former wife Maya Usova.

My all time favourite has been Marina Klimova and Sergey Ponomarenko. They gave me an incredible emotion, when they won the gold medal in Albertville defeating Paul and Isabelle Duchesnay with that incredible duet on Bach's Air from Suite No.3/Toccata and Fuge in D-minor. :thumbsup: :angel:

I remember a beautiful performance on Carmen by her. She jumped like few others, if she hadn't been so emotional she could have won much more, IMO.

Skating:
Serrart- I like the couples skating too, unfortunatley it usually isn't the US strong point so I rarely have home teams to root for, however I do enjoy Belbin and Agusto this year and I used to love Bourn and Kratz and Griskuv and Platov, and of course T&D (yes I know they are not US). As for actual pairs faves will always be G&G (saw them live just once, they were wonderful), I loved Berezniah and Sikuralzde, Brassure and Eisler (Issabelle was so tiny and so sweet). Oh and Plushenko I do enjoy esp his show programs, he's really shy in person thou (I rember saying I liked his costume for his Sex Bomb program and he turned beet red as he signed my program)... If your wondering where these opinions are coming from I've met most of todays/yesterdays skaters backstage at Champions on Ice. Most were really nice, the best were Michelle, Evgeni, and Surya.

If you ever have any need for skating news take a look at the Michelle Kwan Forum, they discuss all skater there, new and current and retired. Great place to get news.

Amber: I too loved Surya and have a great memory of meeting her and getting her autograph, she is really a nice person, funny too, she signed her name and then wrote "so so cool," underneath with a ying and yang design! She is awsome live though and her backflip is a showstopper, I will always remember the "in your face" attitude at the olympics when she did the backflip! As for before my time I have vague memories of 92, but mostly I rember from 94' out perfectly well.

I got a letter in the mail today from the Family Coalition of Mass. ( :lol: ) to help them in boycotting the new movie "Kinsey." How hilarious!

Isn't it funny that they want to boycott a movie based on the author of a sexuality study conducted nearly SIXTY YEARS AGO.

Someone needs to alert these folks that we now live in a world that has electricity, indoor plumbing, and... *gasp*... books!

The anti-Kinsey protestors are only trying to tell everyone how bad he was because he actually told people something he documented. Don't you all know that if we just don't talk about things than we can pretend they don't exist ?

For the record, Kinsey may have had his issues personally and scientifically, but from my own anecdotal evidence, I find much of his research was spot on.
