View Full Version : Brad Jeffries - weird, Stand Back dancin' man

Just who is this guy?

I remember reading years and years ago, he was another of Stevie's lovers.
Stevie certainly liked him enough to put him in many of her videos.

Anyone have any info on Brad, or even better, any gossip?

And just what was the deal with him leaping out on stage with her during Stand Back? I thought a crazed fan had got on stage during the Red Rocks concert, then I realised it was the same dude from the SNL performance!

Oh Brad where are you now?

As far as I know, Brad still works as a choreographer... which is how he met Stevie (when he was called in to choreograph the second version of the "Stand Back" video).

Stevie spoke highly of him, and apparently liked him enough to also feature him in the videos for "If Anyone Falls," "Talk To Me," "I Can't Wait," and "Rooms On Fire"... as well as bringing him on Saturday Night Live with her, and the 'Rock A Little' tour. :)

He's also worked with Madonna, and has choreographed the dance sequences in films like 'Back To The Future' and 'The Beverly Hillbillies.'
He also had a bit part in 'Grease 2.'

In more recent times, he choreographed a Tim Rice musical, called 'Heathcliff' (of 'Wuthering Heights' fame), and I believe he served as Yoga instructor for Stevie's 'Shangri-La' tour.

thanks Johnny, I didn't realise he was so accomplished!
Do you know if there's any truth in the rumour, that he and Stevie were briefly an item?

That, I don't know.
But if I were Stevie.... ;)

Whew. Who knew you were a Brad Jeffries groupie ?

I kind of doubt the affair thing - they guy had a big old homo vibe. Fer god's sake, he's a choreographer. Stranger things have happened...

I always assume that Stevie is "with" just about any guy she works with for any length of time. And there are those pics from 1987 of the holding hands. Of course, he doesn't fit her pattern of weirdo-looking lovers. To be honest, every time I saw him in one of her videos, I assumed she picked him to appear with her because he's only slightly taller than she is.

LOL! I can't stop laughing while reading this thread. It reminds me of when I was first watching the SNL performance and my sister walked into the room and when this Brad guy came out on stage dancing, my sister (knowing I was watching a SNL clip) started laughing ~ she thought it was part of a SNL skit! Like some new character - goofy 80's dancer - lol! Maybe you just had to be there, but it was a riot. And I could understand her reaction a bit, because when I saw him jump up on stage during the RAL video, I was like - WHAT THE HELL...???!

But I had never heard he and Stevie were an item, and have never seen that 87 pic of them holding hands. I also didn't realize he was the guy in the Rooms on Fire video either. I knew that the guy in it looked familiar, but didn't realize it was him. Maybe they are just really good friends. Men and women can be friends...it's sometimes possible... :p

I think the pic was taken around the time of the press conference announcing that Rick & Billy had joined the band.

You know how there's certain things you really don't want your friends to see, because even though us crazed fans think they're great, we know that others will think it's weird/cheesey/stupid/hilarious?

Well, this is one of them for me. Even I try not to laugh when I see it.

He's probably just her longtime gay choreographer yoga friend. If they'd had a relationship, do you think they'd still be such good friends for so long? Sure, it's possible, but seriously, i doubt it. I, too, laughed when he came onstage SNL. I was like UH-MY-GOD! wahahahahaha!!!!(It's easy to have that perspective when you are seeing it for the first time in 2004. Perhaps in 1982 it was way less laughable) then i was thinking, move, i wanna see stevie more! Then i was thinking, "Does Hall know that guy stole his hair?" :D

Seriously, I just didn't think they did. Stevie's a well known FH, in true diva style. But I don't care, I mean, I hope they did hook up, and do, and whatever. The more salacious the better, as far as i'm concerned.

You have? I always thought I would, but I never do...Gay men don't seem to especially like me, which is rather mysterious. Do gay men and tomboy straight girls repel each other? Hopefully one day i'll know the answer..or, rather, if I hope and i pray, yeah, maybe it might work out someday...

I thought the guy looked absolutely cheesy too. :D He reminded me of a bullfighter, :blob1: but then he flicks his hair and head back, doing that mad dance with Stevie and then just runs off the stage and disappears into thin air.

My daughter who is 12 yrs old was watching the Red Rocks video with me for about the 100th time and we laugh everytime that bit comes on. It's quite therapeutic.

In fact, I'm gonna play it again now just for a laugh. :) :)

Well, gay men tend to flock to women who are fabulously feminine with diva attitudes. Tomboys don't typically exhibit those characteristics. Are you a tomboy?

I'm a fabulously feminine tomboy with a Diva attitude  Actually that's kinda true, but i'm I guess i'm not super, super feminine - with the really done hair, the thick makeup, the nails, the air of being "done". I'm not butch-y tomboy looking. I have a sturdy gait, though, :D but I like cute clothes and jewelry a lot. Actually, the gay men I've known have been ... how do I put this...kinda prissy for me? I'm pretty straight forward in speech and manner, for the most part, and i don't care about the brands of clothing I get, or snarking about people's physical appearance, or talking about $80 haircuts (this is just what these men talked about, i'm not making generalizations) but, uh...what were we talking about? :p

Yeah, I definitely prefer the term "fruit-fly," too... and so does my best friend, Anne.
She's Grace to my Will.

It's funny because everyone always assumes we're a couple. For years now, I've sworn that I'm going to get her the shirt that says "I'm not gay, but my boyfriend is."
Granted, it's meant to be worn by a guy, but it would work perfectly in our situation. *lol*

I feel the same way you do, actually. I'm a no-fuss/no-muss kind of guy.
I wash my hair with whatever brand of shampoo is around, I don't use conditioner, I don't exfoliate, I don't get manicures and pedicures or expensive haircuts, I don't pluck and shape my eyebrows, I don't use bronzer (or go to tanning beds), I wear the clothes and shoes I'm most comfortable in, not simply because they're in-style... and on and on.

There are straight guys who are gayer than me in those regards!

*raises hand*

I've indulged in:

-pedicures, every two weeks (I take care of my own fingernails, no need for manicures)
-chemical peels
-saline injected into my lip
-I exfoliate every night
-non-surgical face lift
-use an eyebrow trimmer (usually every two days)
-get my hair cut every two weeks, usually the same day as the pedicure
-leather pants are my best friend

You sure are one butch queer, Le Stew! I should give Queer Eye your numba. :xoxo:

That is so beautiful, on so many levels....it reminds me a lot that seshuality is a lot about who that other person is...IS...and that many expressions of people's love for others, in whatever form it comes, has an important place...and is important for people to express, because if you behave and feel in a loving manner towards someone...doesn't that just increase the amount of love in the world?..and doesn't that make everyone's life better? To act in an accepting and loving manner to anyone you feel you can? If you treat people the best, they will act their best...oops, wait, i'm getting soapbox carpal tunnel... :D

True, but I think it's a bit ridiculous to assume that she can't work with anyone for more than a minute without being "with" them. :distress:

Brad was the yoga instructor on the TISL Tour.

He's gone from flailing around Stevie (it's most amusing when he rides up and down her leg! ) to helping her roll her legs up over her head. :)

That dancing is just the epitome of what was deemed "cool" in the Eighties, isn't it?! It cracks me up and I love it. Did he come out at every RAL show, or was he just there for filming Red Rocks? Totally hilarious if he was on the whole tour just to come out and do that!
