View Full Version : Weird Song Question

darklinensuit

Years ago I knew a woman who was in a car accident and slipped into a coma. After days of waiting, the doctors suggested to her mom that she play her daughter's favorite music to try to pull her out of the coma. Eventually, a U2 song woke the daughter up, and when Rattle And Hum opened, we all went to see it together.
Anyway, my question here is: What one Stevie song would be most likely to pull you out of a coma?

Wow, that IS a weird question! :p

For me, I imagine it would be "Battle Of The Dragon."
The song saved my life once... I'm sure it could save it again. :)

Stand Back

(I'd probably prefer the live version from LIB, but I don't think I should be so picky being in a coma & all...)

It was my favorite song when I was young, so it has positive, youthful memories attached to it. :)

EDGE OF SEVENTEEN, I guess. But if it's about songs that "turns you on" (even from a coma) , maybe I CAN'T WAIT and STAND BACK (live) fit in this situation, too

darklinensuit

I agree it's hard to decide. Bella Donna would make sense: "Come in...out of the darkness..." but it's not my pick. Gypsy comes close, Wild Heart demands attention, and I Can't Wait might jolt a person awake. But my real pick would be Seven Wonders. Something about those first notes just gr4abs me.

Funny you say that... I was just talking to a friend about living your life as you see fit, and not worrying what others will think, because... "people will believe what they want to believe about you. And even when it's not true, they'll just make it up."

In regards to Jake's question, suffice it to say that I had a period of severe depression, and was having an impossible time seeing any options or "light at the end of the tunnel."

"But I got the message... stay among the living."

I'd like to leave it at that. :)

The song I would pick would be "Twisted" ~ It's one of the many Stevie songs that gives me goosebumps.

And although it's not a real Stevie song, I could picture her duet with Kenny Loggins, "Whenever I Call You Friend" pulling me out of a coma ~ don't ask me why.

But if I ever were to be in a coma, I hope they don't start playing Stevie music to me for a few days. I could really, *really* use the deep sleep. [says the insomniac  Or rather, says the nightbird - ya, that sounds prettier! :p ]

Oh. And also because I always have to snap three times during "Though we've been... Out of touch" ala the video. Then I always have to hold up 4 fingers when she says "Blame it on something at first sight." Like the video.

That is a really, really, really great song. I keep forgetting how good it is until I hear it. Why the hell it was a soundtrack song instead of on Rock A Little, I'll never know. There's actually a cool story about why. A notorious fan in California got hold of a rough of the song many months before the album was released. Probably because he was a braggart, he notified the Stevie Nicks camp that he had it. Stevie & her producers had every intention of putting it on Rock a Little before hearing that this guy had it already. (If any of you saw the benefit Stevie played with Tom Petty & Jackson Browne at Universal Amphitheatre in 1985, this was the same guy who grabbed her Stand Back cape off the stage at the end of her set. There are a number of other stories about him involving a friendship with Kim Anderson & several of Stevie's personal belongings.)

Lori Perry (back then she was just "Perry") called the braggart to discuss how he came to get it, & they set up a meeting. As far as I know, they actually did meet, but the damage had been done -- in Stevie's eyes, I guess. No Battle of the Dragon on Rock a Little. But a little later, this guy started trading his demo of it with Tom Petty, so that's how that particular item got circulated.

Hee. I usually call the Backup Singers the Backswayers, since all thEy do is sway around. During RAL, though, they were sorta sassy, so I call RAL!Backup Singers the Backsassers.

And now you know... the rest of the story. ;) :wavey:
