Rank the solo albums in the order that shows which you play most often.

1) Enchanted Disc #1 (I just wish The Highwayman were on this one % OMBTRARS were on Disc #2 - The flow would be much better.)
2) Rock A Little (TWH is my favorite, but I love RAL when I drive.)
3) Enchanted Disc #3
4) The Wild Heart
5) Trouble In Shangri-la
6) Bella Donna
7) TimeSpace
8) Enchanted Disc #2
9) The Other Side Of The Mirror
10) Street Angel

The top 6 I play a lot. Of course, this list does not include any of the demo "albums" that I play a lot.

1) Trouble in Shangi-la - it's been in my cd player for years now
2) Enchanted Disc #3 - on tape, I recorded without Gold substituting a Julie demo instead
3) Rock a Little - or more specifically, I Can't Wait is one of my favorite driving songs
4) The Wild Heart
5)The Other Side Of The Mirror - both are on the same tape
6) Street Angel
7) Bella Donna - both are on the same tape
8) TimeSpace
9) Enchanted Disc #1
10) Enchanted Disc #2

right now, I'm really into listening to songs performed live which I have on cd, tape, and mp3 on the pc so Stevie is always in concert at my house!!

Timespace and Enchanted

I said that I usually don't listen complete solo albums, as I do with mac albums. I like specific solo songs from Stevie (as from Lindsey and Chris), though Bella Donna sure is my fave solo album.

So the collection or greatest hits fit perfrect to me

-The Wild Heart (fantastic album from beginning to end)
-Bella Donna (with the exception of Think About It, I love every song)
-TOSOTM (I have love it, shoot me!)
-Enchanted (I play all the discs a lot)
-RAL (not a favorite by any means, but I love a few songs and the beats give me some pep while I'm driving)

I never play SA unless it's to hear Greta or Just Like A Woman.

And I'm so burned out on TISL that it's collecting dust. I have the title track burned onto another CD, though, because it's one of my faves.

The only ones I own are Bella Donna, The Wild Heart, Rock A Little, and Trouble In Shangri-La. I used to have the box set, but I think I lost it or something.

Anyway...

I think I play Rock A Little the most, followed by Bella Donna, then TISL. The Wild Heart is actually my least favorite. I don't play it much at all. In fact, I'd like to have the box set again, because the best songs from TWH are all on it.

The first 4 are biggies for me. I DESPOSE Rock a Little and just don't see the point of Timespace. So those last 2 very very very rarely ever get played by me. ED3 is by far her best solo album even though technically it's just acompilation.

Beauty & the Beast is one of TWH's 4 or 5 really great songs. Nothing Ever Changes is okay, but I definitely wouldn't pick it over B&B. Why they didn't put Garbo on that album, I have no clue. Now, that's a great song.

I don't really listen to Stevie's solo stuff very often, but when I do, it is usually:

1) Trouble In Shangri-La (Since it was released I've listened to it more than any other of hers)
2) Rock A Little (however, thanks to CD programming, I only listen to what was Side Two of the LP + "I Can't Wait" & "Some Become Strangers")
3) Bella Donna
4) Street Angel
5) Enchanted #3 (I think I might have listened to #1 & #2 the day I got it, and never since)

I rarely play the others at all...and only because I'm somewhat of a completist do I still OWN Other Side Of The Mirror...to me, it is by far her worst solo album.

Disc #1 is more guitar & piano (Lots of BD and TWH). Disc #2 is more keyboards. (Lots of TOSOTM stuff, which is not my favorite album.)

I'm surprised you don't like TWH. It's cohesive, but vocally more adventurous than the others. But then again the lyrics are probably too extreme Stevie-esque for you, I imagine.
TOSOTM is sad to the point of dreary. I like several songs a lot, but the overall sound & keyboard support leave me feeling blah afterwards. Say what you will about RAL, folks, but for many of us it's an energizing mood lifter.
(And I agree that Side 2 is probably stronger than Side 1. My least favorite song on the album is I Sing For The Things.)

I'm surprised you don't like TWH.

It's not that I "don't like" it. It just sounds even more dated than RAL to me. (especially, "If Anyone Falls" & "Nothing Ever Changes") "Sable On Blond" is still in my top 5 favorite Stevie solo tunes. I think Fleetwood Mac plays "Stand Back" better than the original recording. "Enchanted" is really a cool tune, but the remix on the box set sounds cleaner to me. "Gate & Garden" is ok...another song that has the direct DNA of "Dreams" (but of all those, "Outside The Rain" & "Sable On Blond" are the stronger ones). "I Will Run To You"...after the wonderful TP duet on Bella Donna, this was boring (to me), and starting to get formulaic (especially, with TP having another duet with SN on his own album in the meantime). "Beauty & the Beast", again, the box set track sounds cleaner. (and I actually kind of like the Fleetwood Mac demo/outtake version even better than her solo version). She does a nice job on B&tB live, though. Oh, yeah, and the title track...not so much, ya know? It was the first track that really started to show the wear & tear on her voice and was a hint as to the direction her voice was going. Plus, it seemed like she was going for another "Bella Donna" (the song), and it paled by comparison. And, that said, I think overall (and in retrospect) it just seemed like she was trying to re-create the entire Bella Donna album formula only using the current pop/synth flavors instead of the slight country flavor of BD.

Interesting.
I agree that Stand Back live is far superior to the album track, at least the versions from the current and RAL tours. The Mask versions sucked, as much for her voice as for the production.
I love the song Wild Heart, and IMO the album still has some country sounds, especially Enchanted & Gate And Garden. One big difference from BD is that the earlier album relies on guitars, whereas TWH has a prominent piano sound (except where those keyboards are present). I Will Run To You is no Insider, to be sure. It's the most dated of the songs (keyboards!), along with IAF, though I love IAF. And the vocals on Nothing Ever Changes and Sable On Blonde match up to any on BD, IMO.

Wild Heart is one of those 4 or 5 great songs on the album, IMO. Even though I agree that it sounds dated, If Anyone Falls is another one of the great ones. Something about the vocal and the lyrics seem to make up for the very '80s sound of the music.

I've never been able to make any sense out of the lyrics to Gate & Garden.

Gate & Garden & The Nightmare have the same tendency to start a thought/conjure & image & then just jump to a new one abruptly. But that's Stevie.

For me TWH is Stevie's best album, which is funny because I didn't care for it at first. But over the years I find it's the album I go back to the most. Her vocals on it are superb, from the passionate opening track to the epic and lush Beauty & The Beast - I just love every single song, IWRTY included. Bella Donna is a close second though, and TISL is holding up well so far.
I always thought TWH and BD were the albums that sounded the least dated, but we all hear things differently I guess! :)

Well said!

Now, see...I love The Nightmare. The lyrics are a little convoluted, but I can make some sense out of it (besides, she just rocks on it). With Gate & Garden, I get nothing. Definitely one of the turkeys of her career.

Well first I don't own SA, and never intend to... But I have all the others...

Belladonna: The end all be all
Trouble in Shangi-la: LOVE Bombay Saphirres and several other songs...
Rock a Little: Love everything except If I Were You (If I were you I wouldn't recorded it!)
Enchanted 1: It has Wild Heart, which since my WH tape is broken (really need to crazy glue a head on) is the only way I can hear that song...
Enchanted 3: If I don't want to rewind The Dance then this lets me hear Sweet Girl...
Timespace: I know I'll get flack, but I love and bought this CD just for Sometimes it a B*tch and somedays I really relate to that song...
WH: It's broken but before that I listened to it a bit...
OSOTM: hear twice, don't really care for it

Well, I said I could make *some* sense out of it...not complete sense. She could be talking about almost anything in this verse. I'm a little curious about TOSOTM and Street Angel. I've only heard the songs that are on Enchanted, and I've been hesitant about picking these two up because they seem to be the two most maligned Stevie albums. Are they really that bad?

I think there are a lot of TOSOTM fanatics here, but I'm not one of them. Good songs on the album, but the overall effect as a whole is kind of a downer.

What's on yours?

Back in 1987 I made a mix tape that was always playing in my old Sentra.

I've been playing RAL non-stop in an attempt to warm up to it, and I have a little bit. It still isn't great, but it's not horrid.

Yay, progress! :wavey:
I do think it's great, but I had to warm up to a couple of the songs, and I'm still not loving ISFTT. I loved ICW and Imperial Hotel immediately.
This album always leaves me feeling better, which TOSOTM does not do. :sorry:

My new assessment of RAL:

Great: I Can't Wait, No Spoken Word, Some Become Strangers, If I Were You

Okay: Talk To Me, the performance on Imperial Hotel

Ugh: Everything else about Imperial Hotel, ISFTT, RAL, Sister Honey (fun, but bad), The Nightmare, HAEWAFY (love the song, but I still don't feel the passion on the album version)

I love the song RAL.
The Nightmare has grown on me. The keyboards are cloying, but I like the rest.
I think Imperial Hotel is worlds better than Some Become Strangers.

Not a fan of the song RAL because it just never goes anywhere, it's stagnant. Not her best vocal, either.

The Nightmare is just awful. I don't like the lyrics at all and half of them don't make sense; they just feed into her image for the most part.

Her performance on Imperial Hotel is fantastic and I kinda dig the music, but I don't like the lyrics. The chorus is good, though.

Some Become Strangers is one of the songs that grew on me the most. I love it (with the exception of the cloying background singers).
