Found this on a Bruce Springsteen fansite. Wonder if it’s true?
Anyone have any info? The Stevie Nicks Underground lists the demo as not in circulation.

Janey Don't Lose Heart
Wanted to share some info on "Janey Don't You Lose Heart". Bruce wrote the
song for Stevie Nicks. I believe they met through Jimmy Iovine. Stevie's
best friend died of leukemia in 1982, and subsequently, Stevie sank into
depression. The lyrics to Janey mirror this. She recorded a version of it
called "Baby Don't You Lose Heart", but it has never surfaced.

Rumor is it was never released because Stevie wanted to change "Janey" to "Baby" and Bruce was not fond of that idea. I remember someone posting a long time ago something to the effect of they had asked Stevie's former producer, Gordon Perry, about it & he said there were plans to do it but the song was never actually recorded, for that reason. There's some controversy over that, I guess. I've never heard that the song was written specifically for/about Stevie though. Cool, if it's true... JDYLH is my favorite Springsteen song.

Who was Janey exactly? Maybe if Bruce had thrown in a chimpanzee line... :sorry:

Who was Janey exactly?

I don't know, I always thought she was just a generic character... there are a lot of women's name in Bruce songs (Mary in Thunder Road, The River, Mary Queen of Arkansas, Wendy in Born to Run, Mary Lou in Mary Lou & Reason to Believe, Bobbie Jean, Kate in My Hometown, Rosie in Rosalita, Candy in Candy's Room, Cynthia, Sherry... that's all I can think of right now). "Janey" is also in Sprit In The Night.

enjoy using the generic blue collar female names for his songs.

Thanks for the info Tiff!
I'd love to hear this song, if it was ever recorded that is. Who knows if it does exist it may still resurface at some point!
I'd love to see Bruce and Stevie do a duet.

Just thinking, wasn't one of the reasons she hired Jimmy Iovine to produce Bella Donna because she loved his work on Because The Night (written by Bruce for Patti Smith)? It's plausible he could have written a song for Stevie too I guess.

I think the Enchanted liner notes (Goldberg?) said she liked the Born To Run album.

Yep. I've heard she loved Because The Night, Born To Run and Tom Petty's Damn The Torpedoes, all of which Iovine worked on.

Damn The Torpedoes is a good album.
