I was watching HBO's terrific "Angels in America" and the first time the guy who is dying of AIDS hears the booming but disembodied voice of the Angel (brilliantly played by the brilliant Emma Thompson), the guy asks "Are you one of those spirits that carries me off to the other side" (or something like that). She replies "No, I am no nightbird." I almost fell over for the cool pseudo Stevie ref. to wit "I hear the call of the nightbird" in EO17 meaning the call of death in the hospital and, of course, the song "Nightbird."

I know, I was surprised, too! Isn't "AIA" AMAZING?! I think it is so good that it's awe-inspiring. Truly an achievement. It should win every Emmy it's nominated for.

While Al Pacino has often played this general type of character, he is so good in this I do not know whether to love him or hate him. Same for La Streep - her Rabbinical (sp.?) ulogy at the opening scene funeral was truly inspirational!!!!

Although I love Emma, Stevie should have played the Angel - hey its the Steve board and I do not want Johnny Stew spanking me for straying off topic.

 Everything about the production is marvelous.

And Emma is sexy as hell in it.

Interestingly, "Touched by an Angel" would have fit this movie. They shoulda used it!!!!!

I was just thinking the whole "life will once more be a celbration" part fits in. Plus, he could have done Stevie drag instead of Norma Desmond!!!!!
