View Full Version : Are you a Nightbird or a Sleeping Angel?

Nightbird = night person
Sleeping Angel = day person (asleep at night)
I love the summer, being able to stay up late. (Actually I stay up awfully late during the work year, too.) It seems like I'm not the only one on this board who's up in the dark hours!
Which are you, a Nightbird or a Sleeping Angel?
(And just to make it more Stevie-related, I consider Stevie a nightbird by most accounts, but Mick calls her a "dawn-type lady" in his book. What does he mean?)

Well, as evidenced by the fact that I'm still posting at 3:15am, I'm most definitely a nightbird.
I never have been a morning person... not even as a little kid.
And as hard as I've tried to condition my body for an earlier bedtime, it just doesn't happen.
Going to school used to be brutal, because I'd go to bed at 10pm, but still not fall asleep until 2am... having to rise at 6:30am. :(
Luckily now, I can pretty much go to bed whenever I'm ready, and wake up whenever I'm ready.
As for Mick's comments... I think it's based on the fact that Stevie (as she herself said on Leno's show in 1994) doesn't go to bed until 5am... so she's still awake around the time the sun comes up.
I guess that makes you a "dawn-type lady" in Mick's book! :)

"The ones you dream of,
the ones who walk away-
with their capes pullled around them tight,
crying for the night, cry for the nightbird... tonight."
Yeah, definitely a "Nightbird." I hate getting up in the mornings.

I was a Nightbird that has some how morphed into a Sleeping Angel. Can't pinpoint the exact time in my life that I changed but it has happened. I use to hate mornings but now if I sleep past 7 or 8 I feel like I have miss 1/2 the day.

I HATE getting up early, and have since I was a kid too, Johnny Stew. When I was about 10-11, I would sleep till 2PM in the summertime!! Even tho, I went to bed at like 10PM.....that's too much sleep for me now tho...I can only do that now if I'm not feeling well. I usually go to bed between 12-2AM and then get up around 8. I work at home now, so I can sleep and do what I want which is GREATNESS!!! :D

I am absolutely a Nightbird! I was always one even when I was a little girl. I go to bed now about 3am every night and being out of work right now, can sleep until about 12:30pm. I hated to get up early and still do. When I was in high school, I had to be up at 6:30am...ugh!

I do have a day job but I have a hard time turning myself off for the night and sometimes burn the candle at both ends and use the weekends to catch up on my sleep. I remember my late teens/early twenties when I lived by night and not by day so I must say I am a Nightbird even after all these years and having to do a 8 to 5 job. I still see lots of the night!

totally nightbird... even when i was little.. in elementary school and high school... i couldn't go to sleep when i was told to... i'd sit up for hours reading with a flashlight under the covers... and now.. even if i have to work in the morning i can't go to bed until at least 2 or 3 am.... and when i don't have to work in the morning i'll be up until 5 or 530... and then sleep until almost happy hour... hahaha

I wonder if there should be some psychological study of this board. Is there some correlation between liking FM music & liking the night time? Perhaps a thesis is in order.

LOL...I was the same way. I used to read those Babysitters Club books until all hours of the morning or i'd have headphones on and be listening to music. Even now that I have to be up to be at work, i'm still up until 2 or 3 and if i'm not on here or watching something on TV, I'm lying in my bed with the discman on. I'm a total nightbird and I hate to wake up early. I had a summer class recently and I didn't need a grade for it...just credit so I can get my associates degree. I went to maybe 5 classes...lol. I couldn't wake up, be at class at 8:30, stay until 12:30 and then go to work. It was killing me. Especially when I didn't fall asleep until 3am. Oh, and let's just say that I haven't really eaten breakfast in years...lol. I'm usually not up early enough to eat anything or i'm running late as usual and trying to get to work on time.

I'm a sleeping angel actually. I hate being up late because there's just nothing to do. Unfortunately, I've been forced into a sort of Nightbird situation as my anxiety level has shot through the roof the past couple of days. But under normal circumstances, I like going to bed between 12 and 1 and sleeping a good 9 to 10 hours. And for some reason, my anxiety gets even worse when I can't sleep. I have some sort of panic over not having a regular sleep cycle...probably because I feel like someone vomited me up when I don't get enough sleep.

Definitly I nightbird! Its so nice to see so many fellow nightbirds. I thank god at least had the choice at work to work days or nights and of course..I chose nights. On my nights off I still seem to fall into bed when the sun starts to rise.
Something so peaceful about the night.....

I never read those books (though I know the titles from when I managed a bookstore years ago), but it sounds like the characters are related to the Peanuts gang with the absentee adults.:)

One of the things I always liked about the Peanuts was that their teacher (the only adult) squawked and didn't talk---kind of like real life, "wa wa, wa wa wa wa wa wa, wa wa wa wa wa wa wa"...lol...even when they had adults in the Peanuts (in the movie where they go to Europe, there is a Frenchman) you never see their faces, only like, a hand or a shadow or a squawky voice....lol...it was weird

Yeah, I love these kids all making Thanksgiving dinner plans themselves. Where the hell is CPS in their world? And I'm sorry, but where I come from, the fire marshall would have fined Charlie's ass for that fire hazard of a dog house Snoopy decorated at Christmas time.
There are times in my classroom when I feel like I'm communicating about as clearly as that teacher, though.:) A Yankee in Texas, it's a learning experience.

I'm sorry to say that I am as familiar with Sweet Valley High, Sweet Valley Twins, all other assorted Sweets, and of course the Babysitter Club catalogue! My sister was as big a fan as any and devoured these books :distress: I'm glad to say I've only ever read one SVH story and the first BBC book (I must have been desperate  ) but now in retrosepct I pity my parents having to fork out so much for those massive series - there was hundreds of them :( Finishing off the new Harry Potter had me up late the other night!!

lol seriously!!! and they lived in sweet valley in southern california and the area where i lived in socal (even though the city had a different name) was called pleasant valley.... i swore i belonged in their world... and yeah wakefield was their last name... and they had an older brother named Steven i think... and if you promise not to tell... about 2 or 3 years ago i went and bought two of the sweet valley university books... lol... and read them... and seriously... enjoyed them. lol... one of those strange guilty pleasures... did you ever read any of the sweet valley history books? they had a couple that went back in their family lineage and there were other sets of twins further back on their mother's side... and one of the sets was named Jessamyn and Elizabeth... and one was in the french resistance in WWII... oh gosh i gotta stop. i loved those books.

Clearly I'm in the wrong business.
Anybody want to make a lot of money helping me write a long middle reader series?
Maybe Sweet Penguin High about 16 band members in their teenage years.
Or perhaps the American Silver Girl series, with books about each Stevie song character (Rhiannon, Sara, Lily, Julia, Juliet, Joan, Jane, Amber, Annabel Lee, etc.) In the first book, Sara & Lily panic when they accidentally let loose their triplet Rhiannon's three birdies. Will the birds be found before their sister gets home from the Black Forest Malt Shop? In the next book, the big prom is coming up, and Amber refuses to buy a new dress. Can her sisters persuade her to ditch the black gown she never takes off?
This has potential!

   Do I hear NY Times best seller??? Of course, the success of the book series will lead us to putting out a line of dolls complete with several outfit changes (except Amber, she only wears black dress...they have a very complex relationship). LOL!!

I think my favorite doll will have a string on her back. When you pull it, she has spasms, grabs her shawl, and wails gibberish. She's part of the Moon Sisters of Mirage series.

Oh, and Jake, I think it can be fun when a thread veers off from its original topic. I once likened it to a conversation with friends, where you may wander off in all kinds of directions in the subject-matter, but eventually all roads lead back to the original thing you began discussing. :)

I'm definetly a Nightbird.
It takes forever for me to fall alseep. Even when I'm in bed at nine, I don't go to sleep till one.
What do I do? I have no idea. Usually I find myself either interpreting a song, writing a song, or just starring up at the celling.

I'm definitely a Nightbird! I have to make myself go to bed, especially when I'm off for the summer from teaching school.
