...got this from michellebranch.com on her message board : there's Stevie mentions throughout the whole thing!
-------------------------------------
Have you ever been bothered by the tabloids?
-->No I haven’t cause I’m really not that interesting and no one follows my around. [Laughs]
However…oh I don’t think that’s true because in the recent In Style magazine with Lisa Kudrow on it, inside is a wonderful picture of the ever so lovely and wonderful Stevie Nicks.
-->Yeah.
And you, together! That is an awesome picture!
-->Yup, thank you.
Tell us about this photo shoot.
-->I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan but especially a huge fan of Stevie Nicks…um….being female, singer/songwriter, we’re both from Arizona and I always grew up listening to her and Fleetwood Mac and…
And your mom’s a big fan too.
-->My mom’s a big fan, yeah. And they asked me who my inspiration was, In Style magazine and I told them Stevie Nicks and next thing you know, they’re asking for a photo shoot with Stevie and I. I had only met Stevie once before. It was really brief. Sheryl Crow had introduced us. But we went to this photo shoot together and it was so….it was an amazing day.
-->My grandmother just passed away…
I’m sorry.
-->….and I had gotten back into town and I had my mom with me and my mom’s rarely with me. And we all went out to the beach and it was the most beautiful day and Stevie came out and we listened to Fleetwood Mac…
Alright!
-->…took pictures on the beach and afterwards we all went out to dinner. And she’s just become an amazing, amazing friend.
Did she not, you heard from her again though…
-->Yeah, I heard from her again. Actually like a week later, I got this huge, huge basket of flowers at my house…
[gasp] I love her…
-->…like THE biggest basket that I have ever seen in my life with a handwritten letter just saying how she loves my mom and how to tell my mom that she intends on keeping a close eye on me.
She’s amazing. Yeah, I like that!
-->She also said “I warned you once, I make a friend, you’re a friend for life” and to call if I ever needed anything. I couldn’t believe I was getting this letter from Stevie Nicks.
That is Stevie Nicks, isn’t it?
-->Yeah, she’s beautiful.
And you mentioned Sheryl Crow who’s a friend of yours as well. And what we’re gonna do is take a break and talk about Sheryl Crow and hear a song that you did with her on Hotel Paper. We’ll talk about that right after this. Music Online.
[Commercial break]
Okay, we’ve got Natasha from Pickering. Hello Natasha, wanting to talk to Michelle Branch? She’s here for you go ahead.
Natasha: Hi Michelle.
-->Hi, how are you?
Natasha: Good. I can’t believe I’m talking to you.
-->Aw.
Natasha: I just wanted to know if you ever get nervous before you perform?
-->Oh that’s a good question. You know it’s so funny because I get…I feel really comfortable on stage and I get nervous in other situations. If I’m in a room with a couple of people that I don’t really know, trying to have a conversation with them, I’ll get nervous then. But being on stage is something that I love to do since I was really, really young and it’s my favourite place to be.
Are you nervous about the big show tonight at Muchmusic tonight? The MMVAs happening at 9pm ET. There’s a plug.
-->I’m not nervous about it. A lot of my friends are going to be there and I’m just happy that I got invited to play it.
Yeah well, I wanna ask you this too. There’s the part that there you are over in the corner singing Hotel Paper for us, and the intimacy of that, and then there’s the big venues. You’re touring right now with the Dixie Chicks so you’re in these huge venues. Is there a difference between the stage and the fear?
-->There is. For instance, last night, we did two nights at Madison Square Garden with the Dixie Chicks and it was my dream venue. So before the show, the first night, I was kind of a wreck to myself. I mean I don’t want anyone else to know but I was just like “this is the venue I’ve been dying to play and I’m so nervous. It’s so many people” but once I got out there, you can’t really see in an environment of that size…
You can’t see anybody right?
-->I couldn’t see anybody. I couldn’t hear anybody cause I had monitors in my ears and I felt like it was just me and my band on the stage in a middle of a black room. So there’s a difference, when I go on tour, when I play, I really like to play smaller venues, theatres or clubs. I like being able to see everybody in the crowd and I like being able to hear what people are saying after the songs, you know like “play this song, play that…”
And they yell it out to you. That’s great…
-->Yeah, it’s really an intimate setting and I prefer it and I mean, don’t get me wrong, I would love to play Madison Square Garden again but…
And you will, you will…there’s no doubt about it.
-->Thank you.
But here’s a connection here, I was just thinking about that. Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks who’s good friends with Stevie Nicks…Uh oh…this is gonna rhyme in a second…no it won’t cause I’m gonna throw in Sheryl Crow. These are all really unbelievable singers. They have authenticity and you’re part of that group. How do you feel about that?
-->I’m very flattered. I mean, being on tour with the Dixie Chicks, I was on tour with Sheryl Crow and now meeting Stevie Nicks and having the pleasure of hanging out with her; it’s amazing because I’m a fan of all of there’s. And to be considered…you know…when people hear about me and can put me in the same group as them, it’s the most flattering thing ever.
