I can tell you that people who knew me 15 years ago probably still think of me whenever they hear about Stevie or FM. Anybody who knows me as more than an acquaintance knows about how I am with this music. Naturally, this carried over into my work.
When I used to teach elementary school, I would do lessons on grammar, main idea, symbolism, poetry, etc. using Stevie/Mac songs, and the kids would come in with questions like "My parents want to know, do you have this album?" and "My parents want to know, do you also like The Eagles?", etc. Many times the parents and I would bond over the musical interests. AND I played my part in indoctrinating this new generation, as I'd hear from the kids that they had gone home to download particular Stevie songs I'd talked about or played in class. (Sorry, Stevie, I'd prefer you got the royalties, too.) When we took the DARE program, I used the lives of Janis (famous Texan) & Stevie to teach about the effects of drugs, and let me tell you, the kids were intrigued. We did shared writing on biographical themes with Stevie as the model that stayed posted on the board.
BTW, their favorite album was TWH, so there is hope for the future.
You know what they say, when you write or talk about what you love, it's infectious...

My kids and I are tight. They listen to the music I do and enjoy it. Of course, I feel I have good taste, but thats IMO LOL! We're taking them to a music festival in a few weeks over the Fourth. Its a family tradition and they love to go. My daughter loves Stevie (her middle name is Sara), she sings right along. She also enjoys other oldies like the Beatles, Elvis and older bluegrass like New Grass Revival. My son enjoys classical sometimes before bed. No more for me, but Im glad the two that I do have are so far doing well. Teen years are afoot however, and who knows how long the peace will last. I just hope we did a good enough job until now.
Beautiful Child is one of my fav Stevie songs.
PS - I myself remember FM songs when I was growing up, then Stevie solo. Who didnt love the Mac in the 70's?

Who didn't? Me. As I posted recently, as a child, I always thought FM was country because of the name. I got into the band in the 80s. As usual I did something ass-backwards.
I can't remember, did you get to see Beautiful Child on this tour? It's amazing.
Who knows, by the time you have teenagers, Stevie might be dueting with Eminem or JLo. (Joke! Don't stone me.)
Enjoy the music festival.

Stone you!?!? I think a Stevie/Eminem duet would be the most INTRIGUING thing EVER!! Put Lindsey on guitar and by gawsh, I will buy that CD!!!!! J-Lo...nuh uh...she's too boring and bland.

That's really cool that some young kids like older music. I did when I was young...I LOVED the Beatles and haha..Gene Kelly (I was WAY into musicals) and some 80's FM that my sister listened. Let me tell ya...I got made fun all the way up to high school for my music tastes....I didn't care...so yeah...that's awesome that you introduce FM to your students in such a cool way, I would have loved that as a kid.

I'm not an Eminem fan myself, and to be honest, I couldn't name a song by him or JLo. (Also, I've never seen one of her movies, and I'm rather proud of that.;) ) But I can see how people could like Eminem, and my students love him.
(IMO, Stevie needs to duet again with Tom, Don, or Warren.)
DrummerDeanna, it's true that if it's not interesting to the teacher, the kids are gonna be bored. Getting paid to talk about the Mac is a nice gig. (Maybe there should be an educational forum at the Ledge, Marty.:) )

Dude needs to check himself into anger-management (if he can find time between all of his feuds with Ja Rule, Murder Inc., Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Moby, Fred Durst, etc., etc.), and learn how to get over himself.
What we put out into this world is what we get back from it... and I have no interest in what he's putting out.

I was 16 when I fell in love with Stevie and FM. And I turned 16 in 1993! So, how cool was I with my 1970's taste in music?? HAHA! I was teased about it too! Oh well!

To be honest, I don't know songs by any of the "artists" you listed, and I couldn't pick most of them out of a line-up. (I do know Christina would be the naked one.) I couldn't match any of their songs to them.
Sometimes It's A Bitch is about as far in this direction that Stevie will ever go, I hope.

Well I teach Welsh to kids over 11 - I have yet to figure out how I can incorporate Stevie or Fleetwood Mac in the lessons!

I don't think Stevie would go anywhere NEAR Eminem. I think he'd scare the s**t out of her!
And I don't think JLo would go anywhere near Stevie. Jlo is too much into herself and I don't think she'd recognize a class act if it fell on her.
BTW, I do like Jlo's movies. I wouldn't pay $8.50 at the theatre to see them, but they're good for a $3.99 rental. And I like her perfume.:D

Couldn't you play Rhiannon (or any of the Rhiannon songs) & tie it into the Mabinogi?

I have loved the Mac since 1982 when I was eleven and I am now thirty one so for twenty years I have been a fan though I remember hearing The White Album & Rumours era songs on the radio on my rides to school. Mom loves the Christine McVie's tunes and my younger siblings (twenty three yrs old and sixteen yrs old) both were exposed to Fleetwood Mac and have at least one or two Mac cds in their collections.
My brother was two when I bought Mirage and my sister was born two months before Tango was released so she was rocked to sleep many a night to that album.
It is rather incredible how the Mac has spanned many age groups.:wavey:

LMAO @ gldstwmn!!! thats TOO funny!!
yeah~im almost 26 now, so unfortunately i didnt get to hear all the 70s fleetwood mac until later...my parents always listened to country so i had to discover the good stuff on my own. when the dance came out, my husband watched it on tv~& kept talking about how it reminded him of being little, b/c HE has parents that listen to COOL music...& he got to grow up hearing it. i went out & bought rumours for him, & ended up listening to it more than he did. after that it was all over, & a new fascination with stevie was born in me. thank god.
