I am totally obsessed with Sable On Blonde and Imperial Hotel right now. I think I heard some demos recently and I went back and listened to these great album songs and now I have totally rediscovered these classics and they have grown on me in a way that they never did before. Can anyone relate?

Great minds think alike. I was totally jamming in my head to Imperial Hotel right before I read this and was thinking it was time to haul out RAL again!!!!!!!

Actually for once for me, not at the moment. I had leant Say You Will to a friend and just got it back on Thursday, so that's been playing and playing and playing. Strangely enough, a few days before I asked for it back I couldn't find much to listen to...and I think it was just because I wanted to hear the SYW songs so much again, lol. I did, however, give If I Were You many whirls in the cd player, as well as a few Bella Donna and VBOFM listens.

I never payed many attention to it before, but now I do think that "Kind Of Woman" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded. Seriously. I'm just in love with that song. :)

Do you all think the "friend" she is talking to in Imperial Hotel that is "across the same (or as some say "stained") glass table" is Tom Petty. I have always thought so but it is just a feeling as I have nothing to support it with.
Here is the full lyric
She sits across the table...the same glass table
Cries to her friend...why am I so alone
He says, wo baby, baby, baby, baby
This is the path you have chosen
She probably goes under another name
Well, that's a good idea

I have been listening to OSOTM like crazy. I really love that album so much.
That and RAL I listen to way more than BD or WH, it's strange. I listen to them more than TISL. I can't listen to TISL right now because its too close to SYW. Weird?
But OSOTM, its so underrated. It really is a magic album!:)

This is my favorite song off BD album.
I first heard that and fell in love at first listen. I think its simply gorgeous...and it's simple, her voice is dead on and and its so emotional.
When I heard she wrote this because Lindsey was away doing his thing and she was left at home, it really became that much more beautiful to me. I totally agree!

I've been listening to my Belladonna album alot.
I also have been listening to "Sleeping Angel" - I don't know why I never really listened to this song before - it's so beautiful.

I just LOVE Angel and very often it pops into my head for no reason at all and I just HAVE to start singing it out loud.....especially in the shower...must be something about the acousitics.
I know that Stevie loves to sing in the bathroom too cause of the sound it gives you...LOL :)
But the old Stevie song I'm into at the moment is Sleeping angel...just perfect Stevieness!

I actually just discovered the song Battle of the Dragon this past week. I mean, I had heard it before but it was always a skipper for some reason. But a few days ago I had Enchanted #3 spinning, and my roommate walked in and BOTD came on, and he remarked on what a beautiful song it was (he's a passive Stevie/FM fan) and I don't know what happened, but when he said that, something in me clicked. And all of othe sudden, I was like, Yeah, this is a great song. Now I've been playing it non-stop, and I can't figure out why I used to skip it! It's weird how one stupid comment could change the way I think about it.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I'm really lovin' me some OSOTM as well. How great are Juliet, Fire Burning, Rooms on Fire, and one of my very favorites, Ghosts!?!?
So long ago, I was an innocent
It had nothing to do with age...
Would she PLEASE do some songs from OSOTM on her next solo tour! (I'm dreaming', I know)

I also love the Wild Heart tour version where Waddy makes the begining sound like a Stones song.

All I have to say is, the demo version of SOTM is AWESOME, I don't know if there is more than one version floating around out there but the sparse piano arrangement and the haunted melody really gave me a lump in my throat. I think Stevie should perform it again like that someday.

You know, I've always thought that this was about Tom Petty too, but I'm not quite sure why. I don't recall reading anything like that in any interviews or anything though. Weird.

I love Kind of Woman -- always have, even the what was that...3-part demo or something? & speaking of Bella Donna (my Stevie album of choice), I really just love "Think About It" and "The Highwayman" -- I think she delivers some amazingly powerful songwriting in her BD songs.
Otherwise, "Angel" is always a favourite, and "Storms" -- I love that.

Definitely songs that I can sing along with!
Those would be Sister of the Moon, If You Ever Did Believe and Storms have been my favorite classics that I have been really putting on heavy rotation!

TWISTED!
I flipped out when this song was released. How rare -- an actual duet between Stevie and Lindsey! If they had any true sense of adventure and inspiration, they would have included it in their live set for their current tour. I'm amazed Stevie performed it for her last tour. It was nice to hear live...but it would be even nicer to hear it with Lindsey and the rest of the band.

Until SYW release I was really into Sable on Blond and the whole Excalibur reference therein. A couple of weeks back I also dug out RAL and burned it onto CD so that I can actually play it again. I love If I Were You and miss that song.

I keep listening to Angel like the rest of you....gawd, I HEART that song. Same thing with Designs of Love demo (aka That's Alright) I LOVE the vocals on that. Oh, and No Questions Asked has been in my CD player as well

Designs of Love is fantastic! I've always sort of had this love/hate relationship with That's Alright, but this demo really puts a new spin on the song and makes it truly phenomenal IMO. I strongly urge anyone who has a hard time listening to That's Alright to give Designs of Love a try. You have to really appreciate country styles of music though, but the banjo makes it fun even if you don't!

I love this thread. :)
I've been addicted to the Rhiannon piano demo as of late...I even posted it on my website so my friends could download it. Just the whole beginning with her talking is just so mesmerizing...and the song just gets more and more awesome as it goes on through that 7 minutes and 44 seconds. :D
That along with If Anyone Falls...just lately it's been one of those songs that I keep repeating in the car and just belting out. That and Violet and Blue.

Alas, he was the Highwayman....
The one that comes and goes
And only the Highwaywoman.... keeps up with the likes of those
And she in all her magic....
With hands as quick as light
Took him to be a challenge... and went into the night........
One of the greatest songs ever... She should do this live with Don Henley at those AHA benefits instead of "Leather and Lace".
And by the by.... "That's Alright" kicks ASS!!! (All versions included)

I agree wholeheartedly....I love to listen to The Highwayman. And as for That's Allright - always loved this tune......sometimes I have to weigh up whether I prefer this to Gypsy??????

I've always loved Designs of Love & The Highwayman & Imperial Hotel, but for the past few months it's been all about Garbo for me (hence the posting name). Love the simplicity, the vocals, the oddness of the lyrics (only Stevie would choose not to write love song lyrics to this melody). Also, I'm getting into Somebody Stand by Me (love the way her voice contains so much passion at such a slow speed - - - what control she has). And the Enchanted version of Twisted (not the movie version). And Mix Down/Love and War.

Actually, she said in an interview that they were planning on doing it and then they didn't do it. It would be incredible.

Actually, 'Silver Springs' puts me deep into thought and 'Rhiannon" gets me going. I also usually have the #3 cd from enchanted with me in my vehicle all the time too.

Since the box set has come out the song for me has been Blue Lamp. I love the beat & her vocals are so passionate.
